#82-ALGE CRUMPLER University of North Carolina Tar Heels 6:02.2-264

    ANALYSIS
Positives... Solid blocker with a muscular, compact frame...Quick to get his hands up on a defender...Has quick feet and plays with an aggressive nature...Does a solid job of getting to the second level to cut off and neutralize the linebackers...Has an explosive release off the line... Maintains his balance while absorbing the hits in traffic... Quick in and out of his breaks, displaying good concentration going up for the ball...Quick to extend his arms to haul in the high pass...Natural receiver who works hard to get open... Has the agility to sink his hips and turn upfield rapidly after the catch...Shows the leg drive and upper body power to break tackles and the acceleration to separate from the defender running down the sidelines...Knows how to use his hands to escape the press at the line of scrimmage...Does a nice job of working back towards the ball and can find the seam on deep routes.

Negatives... Slightly undersized and could be used more as an H-back, as he has problems "keeping his leg" underneath him when trying to maintain position vs. the larger defenders...Needs to develop better hand usage as a blocker, as he tends to try and wrestle with his opponent...While he has good acceleration after the catch, he lacks the ideal speed you look for in a tight end.

    CAREER NOTES
Three-year starter whose value to the team can not be measured by only his receiving skills, as his blocking has proven to be invaluable for the Tar Heels' running game...Missed the 1998 season due to knee surgery, but has 33 regular season starts under his belt...Joins NFL tight end Greg DeLong (1994) and Freddie Jones (1995-96) as North Carolina tight ends who have earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors... Finished his career with 68 receptions for 760 yards (11.2 avg) and five touchdowns.

REMIND ME OF... San Diego's Fred Jones.

GAZING INTO THE CRYSTAL BALL... I did not think either his father or brother were pro prospects and they proved me right. Crumpler seems to be in the same mold. Despite all of his athletic ability, why do I keep humming that Peggy Lee tune when I think of this guy (Is that all there is). Still, he will follow Heap as the next tight end prospect taken.
