ANALYSIS
Positives... Big-play threat with exceptional hands...Has an explosive initial burst, using his size well to escape the press coverage jam at the line of scrimmage...Has a set of head fakes to fool the defender and can also overpower his man with his leg drive...Sharp pattern runner with a fluid change of direction...Plants and drives well on his patterns and is always aware of where the coverage is stationed...Creates a lot of separation on his own, scheming to find space in the zone seams...Charges hard for the ball in traffic...Can catch outside the framework and maintains focus on the ball in flight... Has that deep separation burst and sideline body control to make acrobatic catches seem routine...Times his moves perfectly going up for the ball, using his size and quickness to gain much of his yardage after the catch...Can deliver explosive crack blocks and is very adept at stalking the defender when lending support for the ground game.
Negatives... Has to be prodded to work hard in practice, but always "shows up" on game day...Likes to cradle the ball and sometimes will try to turn and run before he has properly secured the pigskin...Competes better when he knows he will be the primary target, tending to "slack off" when he is not involved in the play...Non-conformist who shies away from usual teammate banter...Needs to improve on his balance coming back for off-target passes.
CAREER NOTES
Was expecting to play at Oregon State in 2001, but the NCAA ruled in October that the 2000 season would be his final year of eligibility...Attended Langston (Okla.) University in 1996, then transferred to Santa Monica (Cal.) Community College, playing in 1997 before sitting out the '98 campaign...Returned to the football field at Santa Monica in 1999, then transferred to Oregon State upon graduation.
REMIND ME OF... St. Louis' Isaac Bruce.
GAZING INTO THE CRYSTAL BALL... His less than eye-opening 40-yard dash time at the Combines and only one year of major college experience could see him slide into the second round, but he has big-play potential written all over him. With Green Bay and Seattle looking for a "home run" threat, he won't get past those two teams in the second.
