Andre Maddox S North Carolina St. 6’1 200
By: Robert Davis

Andre Maddox became one of the more active safeties in college football during his sophomore season. He finished the campaign with 126 tackles, 5 for loss, and 4 sacks. As a junior, he continued his success tallying 145 tackles, 10 for loss, and 2 sacks, earning All ACC honors for his play. His production really fell off as a senior, as he finished with just 40 tackles and 3 for loss, but he still received the teams most valuable DB award and was named a team captain.

Maddox is a very active strong safety prospect. He is great at attacking the line of scrimmage, and is a force against the run. He knows where the play is going, and always has a role in the tackle. He is a big hitter and will make you think before crossing the middle.

While Maddox is a strong safety in style, his body really is not that of a strong safety. He is light in the pants for the spot, and it could hinder his ability to be the physical presence his game is based on. Also, he has played a hybrid safety role, and isn’t always used in deep coverage, so he has to learn to cover in the league.

Andre Maddox is strictly a Day 2 prospect, but he has some upside, and should find a spot in the NFL. If he can learn to cover, he could be a decent starting safety for someone. Even if he doesn’t find a role as a starter, his toughness and attitude should get him a spot on special teams in the league for a long time. He should hear his name called somewhere in the 5th round range.
