Bill Swancutt DE Oregon St. 6’4 270
By: Robert Davis

For the past three seasons, Bill Swancutt has been one of the prime pass rushers in college football. As a sophomore he moved into the starting lineup and responded with 11.5 sacks and 21 tackles for loss. As a junior, he almost duplicated those numbers with 45 tackles, 16 for loss, and 11 sacks. Once again Swancutt reached the 11 sack mark as a senior, totaling 11.5 sacks to go along with 65 tackles, 18 for loss, and an interception.

Swancutt is just a football player. If he’s on the field, he’s going 100% and he’s making plays. He knows how to get into the backfield and disrupt plays before they get going. He can take on a block, escape and make the play. He plays the game the way coaches wish everyone would.

For all that production, Swancutt lacks the ideal athleticism and speed that you look for in an end. He possesses only average closing speed, and doesn’t have a great burst in short areas. His size is also only average at the next level, and some question if he can play end. He may need to drop back to OLB in a 3-4 defense.

Players with the type of attitude and intensity Swancutt plays with can outperform their lack of physical skills. He doesn’t look like an every down player at the next level, but he should be able to find a role in the league. With his poor showing at the combine, he may not hear his name called until the second day of the draft.
