Charlie Frye QB 6’4 228 Akron
Charlie Frye hopes to be the latest MAC QB to become a quality NFL starter, following Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich, and Ben Roethlisberger who have risen to stardom in the league. Frye considered leaving for the draft after his junior season, but wisely returned, and looks to have elevated his stock. In four years, Frye has played in 46 games, including 44 starts. His totals include 11,049 passing yards, 64 touchdown passes, 32 interceptions, while completing over 63% of his passes. Frye has also added 19 rushing touchdowns during his career.
Frye is a complete quarterback prospect. He’s tall, has a solid arm, and is athletic. He is a pocket passer who shows the ability to get the ball down the field, but he has surprising athleticism to elude the rush and make plays with his feet. He is tough, will stay in the pocket and take a hit, and will play injured. Off the field, Frye is a dean’s list student and is an active member in community service projects.
Frye may be the top senior QB in the draft. Which underclassmen declare could dictate exactly where he ends up in the draft. I feel comfortable calling him a 2nd round talent, but if Leinart and Rodgers go back to school, some team may pull the trigger in the late first on Frye.
