Craphonso Thorpe WR Florida St. 6’1 188
As a junior in 2003, Craphonso Thorpe emerged as one of the elite playmakers at the wide receiver position in college football. His first two years as a Seminole he combined for 32 catches and 5 touchdowns, but as a junior, he finished the year with 51 catches for 994 yards, and 11 touchdowns. He was named All ACC and was a Biletnikoff finalist for his success. He broke his leg the last game of that year, and it slowed him down as a senior. He didn’t have the same explosion, but he still managed to haul in 40 passes for 496 yards and two touchdowns. Thorpe also doubled in track, and in 2003, he won the ACC outdoor championships in the 100 and 200.
Thorpe has a lot of natural ability. He has solid size, is a great athlete, and has great speed. He has the ability to run by most corners on the field. He displays solid hands, and is a threat to score any time he touches the ball. He is tough and willing to go over the middle to make the tough grab. Thorpe returned kicks early in his career, and averaged over 21 yards per return, so he brings some extra value as a return man.
Thorpe has a lot of upside at the next level, and could be a steal for someone after the second round of the draft. He brings as much playmaking ability as anyone in the draft if he is completely healthy, and if he can regain that, he’s going to be an excellent NFL player. If he can show that he has his speed and agility back at the Florida St. pro day, he could move himself back into Day 1 of the draft.
