Michael Munoz OT Tennessee 6’6 306
By: Robert Davis

The biggest problem with Munoz is clearly his medical history. During his time in Tennessee, he’s had knee, shoulder, ankle, and elbow injuries, and has even suffered a concussion. He seems to get into a groove, but another injury always seems to slow him down. Aside from the injuries, he is not a great athlete and will likely handle the RT spot in the NFL. He was not able to workout at the combine and he will need to put in the work to rehab his shoulder to be able to start next year.

Based on his on field play, Munoz is a borderline first round talent. He isn’t the greatest athlete, but he knows how to block very well. With his injury history, it’s really tough to project where he may go. He could go anywhere from the early second round to the early second day.

Michael Munoz is well known because his father was a Hall of Fame tackle in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals. But during his time at Tennessee he started to create his own name. He started as a true freshman at right tackle and was named to everyone’s freshman All American lists. He missed the next season with a knee injury, but came back in 2002 and started at left tackle for the rest of his career. His junior season was probably his best, as he played out the year and was named All SEC for the year. His senior season was cut short because of a rotator cuff injury suffered late in the year.

Munoz may be one of the more technically sound lineman to come out in years. With the success his father had, he learned at a young age to not rely on your physical ability. He knows how to use his hands to keep defenders off of him, and shows solid agility in pass protection. Kevin Burnett and Munoz were the first Vol players to be named captains in consecutive years since 1924.
