Ray Willis OT Florida St. 6’6 327
By: Robert Davis

Along with Alex Barron, Willis gave the Seminoles arguably the top bookends in the country over the past few seasons. Willis was a top reserve as a redshirt freshman, backing up Brett Williams, a 4th round pick of the Chiefs in the 2003 NFL draft. Willis moved into the starting rotation a year later, and didn’t let it go for the rest of his career.

Willis is one of the best run blockers among tackles in the draft. He has the ability to dominate in the running game because of his size and strength. If he locks on to the defender, he is not getting away. He is called the “Big Intimidator” by his teammates for his attitude on the field. Ray brings good leadership qualities, and his teammates look up to him. He is also married already.

Willis will be relegated to right tackle in the NFL, because he isn’t a great athlete. He can be beat off the edge, and really struggles with quick rushers. A couple small injuries will be looked into, as Willis had shoulder surgery missing half of spring practice in 2004, and he missed time with an ankle injury this year.

Without the premier athleticism, Willis isn’t a top level talent. He is the ideal right tackle, and with his character, he is going to have a lot of suitors. Willis rates as a 3rd/4th round talent, but should hear his name called in the third round. With his work ethic, intensity, and experience, he is a player that can pay immediate dividends.
