Robert McCune ILB Louisville 6’ 245
By: Robert Davis

Not many potential draft picks have a resume that includes three years in the National Guard, but McCune does. During those three years, he’s spent a year in Korea and had a six-month stint in Kuwait. After his time in the military he moved on to Louisville to begin his football career. His junior year he moved into the starting lineup and became one of the most productive linebackers in the country. He finished the year with 143 tackles, 5 for loss, with four sacks. This past season, he tallied 115 tackles, 4 for loss, 2 sacks, and an interception.

McCune is as tough as they come. He lives to hit you in the mouth and will make you remember his number. He also shows impressive speed and the ability to run sideline to sideline and close on the ball carrier. There may not be a better linebacker in the draft at stuffing the run on the inside. His time in the military has made him more mature than most draft prospects, and he is a team leader. He’s a guy everyone would want on their team.

He will be a 26-year-old rookie at the next level. He is a little on the short side, and doesn’t always play up to the level that his physical ability dictates he should. As an inside linebacker, he needs to work on shedding blocks and weeding through traffic better.

McCune has a lot of upside at the next level. Very few linebackers possess the ability to close that he does, and he’s got the mentality of a pro linebacker. If he can get with a quality coaching staff, the sky is the limit for him. His age will knock him down a bit on some teams draft boards, but his physical skill is going to make someone draft him in the second round of the draft.
