One spot that the Eagles will look to add a player is at free safety. Brian Dawkins had a strong season last year, but he will turn thirty-four during the upcoming season, and depth is lacking at the secondary position. Given Dawkins’ age and the lack of depth, it’s quite evident that Philadelphia will try to find a player to groom as Dawkins’ replacement.
Jevon Kearse and Darren Howard form a solid tandem at defensive end, but Kearse has battled injuries throughout his career, and he played in just two games during this past season. Also, Howard and the other players at the position can be upgraded. The team may look to address their need here as early as the first round of the draft.
The linebacker position could use another talented presence for the coming season, but the team may feel set with its current group of players. A young middle linebacker will help solidify the position for the future, if Omar Gaither is not the answer the team is looking for. Also, additional help at the outside linebacker spot will help since the position isn’t as strong as it once was. There’s youth and some talent, but some under-performed during the 2006 season. The need here isn’t as great as it may have previously been, but it’s still an area that would benefit the team to add help.
