At linebacker, the team needs to look for a play-maker and true leader. This player could come from the draft, and the team will look to acquire an athlete that can make an immediate impact at the position. The Giants have some talent at the position, and slight depth, but the impact player that many great defenses have at the position is probably yet to be found for this team. Their first selection may be used to address this area.
New York will also look to further improve the tackle position on the offensive side of the ball. Luke Petitgout is gone, leaving Guy Whimper and David Diehl as the current leading candidates to replace him at left tackle. An improvement can probably be made over Kareem McKenzie on the other side, but the team will look to add legitimate depth at the very least. There’s a lack of talent at the position, and the team will need to bring in some much needed support. The Giants also lack depth and strong quality at the offensive guard position and will need to find depth and maybe a new starter.
Plaxico Burress is the top wide receiver on the squad and has become an important weapon for quarterback Eli Manning, but not everyone was happy with his play to end the season. Critics mainly cited his lack of effort at times and his dropping of too many passes. Amani Toomer is 32 and will be returning from an injury. Tim Carter, David Tyree, Sinorice Moss, and Michael Jennings make up the rest of the unit. The amount of talent after Burress is in question, and while the team waits for Moss to develop, they may need to add another weapon in the passing attack.
