Veteran safety Rodney Harrison has battled injuries the past two seasons, and late next season he will turn thirty-seven. The team has young James Sanders at the position as well, but the team will likely look to bring in more top-end talent via the draft, if at all possible. The Pats may also look to bolster the free safety position, but an apprentice to Harrison will be a point of emphasis.
The cornerback position becomes one of concern due to Asante Samuel’s desire to receive a contract extension worth large dollars. Samuel has even suggested that he is willing to sit out the season in order to receive what he believes is fair market value for his play. One of the best corners in the game this past season, the loss of Samuel would create a considerable need for more help at his spot. The team may look to take the best secondary player available with their first draft choice.
At linebacker, the talent has been bolstered with the signing of Adalius Thomas, but the team will still likely look to add depth and youth at the position. Of the slotted starters, Thomas and Rosevelt Colvin are the youngest, at twenty-nine.
