Andrew Walter hasn’t been effective enough during his time on the field to solidify his claim to the quarterback position come next season. Aaron Brooks is gone, so it appears that the team is trying to figure out if Walter can handle the job for the future, although most people feel that the team will look for help elsewhere regardless of Walter. As it stands, the Raiders will likely look to add another quarterback in the draft to challenge Walter or to outright take the job from him. Speculation is that Oakland may take JaMarcus Russell, and if Walter doesn’t find favor with the coaching staff heading into the offseason, it’s a very real possibility.
The Raiders needs continue on offense, particularly the offensive line. Left tackle Robert Gallery was a significant disappointment once again. Gallery may even move back to the right side of the line. Guards Paul McQuistan and Kevin Boothe were both rookies just trying to adjust to the pro game, and will be given time to develop for the organization, and center Jake Grove will need to show growth and stay healthy, if he wishes to keep his starting job. The line as a whole may be the weakest of any unit in all of the NFL, and changes will need to be made. With many of the top free agent linemen already gone, the team will have to use the draft to get any significant help here.
