Nate Harris originally signed with Miami, but ended up at Dodge City Community College. After two years there, he transferred to Louisville, and had an immediate impact.. As a junior, he was an instant star, finishing with 66 tackles, 11.5 for loss, and seven sacks on the year. As a senior, he finished with 65 tackles, nine for loss, and two sacks.
Harris is an aggressive linebacker that flies around the field with reckless abandon. He is very good at reacting to plays in front of him and getting to the ball carrier. He is tough and strong enough to mix it up with lineman, but quick enough to slip through and make plays behind the line of scrimmage.
On the field, size is the big area Harris is lacking in. He is short, and may have maxed out his frame. He has problems with lineman overpowering him and taking him out of running plays. Harris also lacks the athleticism and change of direction ability to keep up in coverage down the field. The biggest issue with Harris may come off the field though. Harris originally signed with Miami, but after being arrested for armed robbery and spending time in jail(and later in boot camp after a guilty plea), Miami pulled their offer, and he had to go the JuCo route. He appears to have grown up and matured, but it is still an incident that will be looked into extensively.
Harris has played inside linebacker, and may project to the weakside so he has some versatility. His aggressiveness and straightline speed should also allow him to be a factor on special teams. He may lack the overall physical talent to be a starter, but he could be a solid backup in the NFL.
