Offensive Tackle
Miami has to find a tackle to jump right in and make a difference. Jake Long out of Michigan is a possibility in the draft, but whether or not he’s the choice, someone will be brought in to upgrade the position. It is highly unlikely that both current starts are both starting come the start of the season. The position is too important to not try and make massive improvements early in the draft.
Quarterback
Miami seems optimistic about the potential of quarterback John Beck, but with Cleo Lemon gone, as well as Trent Green, a player to challenge Beck could be in the cards. Josh McCown has been brought in, but that may not be the only move here. Miami could look to acquire a young quarterback on draft day, to challenge for the starting spot or work into the role slowly for the future.
Linebacker
With Zach Thomas gone, the team has a hole at the linebacker position. They have the depth to fill it, but not the quality they’ll need to be successful. Joey Porter, Channing Crowder, and free agent Reggie Torbor could use one more player in the mix.
Wide Receiver
The wide receiver position was addressed in Ernest Wilford, but the team could decide that it wants to free up Ted Ginn a little more and that they need more talent there, meaning they could spend a mid-round or better draft pick on the position. There is depth at the position, but there is still a question about the top end talent that is probably lacking and will be needed going forward.
Defensive End
Jason Taylor may be traded and if it happens, the team will have to find defensive end help to try and replace what they will lose from a production standpoint. Taylor’s desire to play for a contender as his career comes closer to and end has put the Dolphins in a tough position of having to consider dealing away their best player. If the Dolphins can get draft picks in return, they may spend one on trying to find another Taylor-type player.
