Green Bay Packers Team Needs
By: Greg Davis
Cornerback
Al Harris and Charles Woodson are both over 30 years of age and have lost a step or two at cornerback. The pair played well once again in 2007, but many wonder just how much longer they can keep playing at an adequate level. Woodson has a history of injury as well, which could end up slowing him down at some point. Behind Harris and Woodson there is a lack of talented depth, and the Packers can’t be sure if any of the current crop will be ready to step up when the time comes. Green Bay may use their first-round selection to acquire the corner they covet.
Offensive Line
Offensively, the line will need to be addressed because of the age of veteran tackles Chad Clifton (31) and Mark Tauscher (30). Each player has built up the wear and tear, having battled injuries in recent seasons, and with Aaron Rodgers taking over for Brett Favre at quarterback, the team will look to ensure that the new starter is afforded as much protection as possible. The Packers may find some decent value later in the draft to work this out.
Tight End
At tight end, Donald Lee remains a solid option. Outside of Lee, there isn’t a player to be counted on at the position. For the sake of depth and another threat in the passing game, look for the Packers to use an early to mid-round pick to bring in another tight end that can make catches when needed.
Quarterback
With Rodgers in and Favre retired, another quarterback needs to be brought into the fold to at least help Rodgers along further and to be groomed just in case an injury or other issues arise. Green Bay will certainly come away from draft weekend with another quarterback ready to serve as a backup heading forward.
