Offensive Line
The offensive line in Washington has played well at times, but there is a definite problem with depth and the age of the line is also going to become a problem very soon. Guard Randy Thomas and tackle Jon Jansen are both 32, guard Pete Kendall will soon be 35, and center Casey Rabach will be 31 when next season begins. The Redskins have to use the draft to add youth and depth to a line that desperately needs both.
Defensive Line
A defensive end that can apply consistent pressure on an opposing quarterback is still a high priority for the team. Phillip Daniels’ age (35) and the current talent at the position make it a spot in need of advancement. The team simply needs better defensive line play all around, so adding a tackle is also a realistic possibility. There has been little to celebrate up front, even though the defense performed pretty well last season. There’s room to get even better.
Wide Receiver
On offense there was a good deal of depth at wide receiver, but there has been a significant amount of inconsistency. With receivers having left, and talent dropping off considerably after Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El, a move needs to be made in order to build up an offense that struggled often last season. A young player who can come in and contribute immediately will be targeted in the draft.
Cornerback
At corner, the ‘Skins can use depth. Shawn Springs is getting older and the rest of the group could use some fresh talent to pick up the unit and get it headed in the right direction again. Given Springs’ age, there’s no telling how much longer he can remain effective in his role. There has also been a history of injuries with Springs and Fred Smoot, so any chance to add depth at this spot will be worth looking into.
