Rubin began his college career as an offensive and defensive lineman at Trinity Valley CC. He transferred to Iowa St for the 2006 season. In his first season with the Cyclones, he had 34 tackles, four for loss, and a sack. As a senior, Rubin had 42 tackles, four for loss, and 1.5 sacks.
Rubin is the classic nose tackle. He is a wide body in the middle of the defensive line that is immovable off the snap. He has great size, very good strength, and will battle at the line taking on multiple blockers. Rubin can clog running lanes and shows the strength to collapse the pocket at times.
Rubin is a great run stopper, but he will not do much in the way of making plays. He lacks the quickness to get into the backfield and will not disrupt the action much.
Rubin is a big time run stopper that would fit very well in the middle of a 3-4 defense. He is a very good prospect as long as that is all you ask him to do. Rubin could hear his name called in the second round to a team in need of a legitimate nose tackle.
