Rachal was a backup in 2005, but became a starter at RG as a sophomore. He earned All Pac 10 2nd team honors that year. He was again the starter at RG as a junior, but missed time due to injury.
Rachal is a talented guard with a lot of upside. He has good size, and the frame to get even bigger. He has shown the ability to control defenders at the point of attack to open up consistent running lanes. Rachal also is a solid athlete that has shown the ability to hold up in pass protection, but to also get out and block on the move.
Rachal has only a season and a half of starting experience, and may need more time to develop. He has a tendency to get tall at times out of his stance, so he will need to work on keeping his pads down more consistently.
Rachal was somewhat of a surprise to enter the draft, and was not on many peoples radars. He has a lot of talent and potential, but may need some time to develop. He has the talent to be a very good guard in the NFL, and could hear his name called in the second round.
