Lowery began his career at Cabrillo Community College, where he intercepted 13 passes in 15 games during his two year stint there. He carried that playmaking ability over to the D1 level by picking off nine passes last year to go along with 48 tackles. Teams stayed away from his side of the field as a senior, but Lowery still finished with 44 tackles and four interceptions.
Lowery may have the best ball skills of any corner in this draft. He has 22 picks in three years since high school. He shows excellent awareness in coverage to pick up the ball while it is in the air, and the ability to make a play on the football. As a cover man, he shows the quickness to stick with receivers in and out of their breaks, and the speed to cover down the field.
Lowery could stand to add a few pounds and get a little stronger at the next level. While he is a good cover man and aggressive on the ball while it is in the air, he is not as aggressive in run support. Lowery also lacks the foot speed to stick with receivers down the field or to recover when beaten.
Lowery has the cover skills to play at the next level, but needs to show more willingness to help in the running game. He had questions about his speed and while his 40 time is not terrible, it did not help him improve his draft stock. Lowery is worth a mid round selection, and is a player that could outplay his draft position.
