Young was a part time performer in 2004 and 2005, but took over the right tackle spot as a junior in 2006. He started all 13 games there during the year. He moved over to left tackle this year, but a knee injury ended his season.
Young is a lineman that brings a lot of versatility to the game. He has experience at both left and right tackle, and may project better at guard in the NFL. His experience at tackle should only help him at guard in the NFL. He is a decent athlete that shows the lateral agility to adjust to moves by the defender, and the mobility to block on the move. He has the strength to control a defender when they try to bull rush him.
Young may not have the athletic gifts to remain at tackle in the NFL. He lacks the athleticism to match up with quick ends on a consistent basis. His size is also best suited at guard. Inside at guard, he may not have the brute strength to drive defenders off the ball on a consistent basis.
Young is a solid guard prospect. He has the tools to be a solid all around guard, though he may never be a star on the interior. He may be able to play right tackle in the NFL in time, so he does bring versatility to his team. The knee injury may limit his ability to work out for teams, but that could make him a steal come April.
