Ikegwuonu had a solid freshman season picking off three passes to go with his 26 tackles. As a junior, he had 41 tackles and two picks. His junior season saw teams test him less, resulting in just one pick and 24 tackles.
Ikegwuonu is a very talented corner prospect. He has good size, is a very good athlete, and shows the ability to cover and help out in run support. He has very good ball skills and consistently makes plays on the football. He is physical and aggressive to help out in run support, and can bring down players in the open field.
Ikegwuonu lacks ideal speed and quickness, which leads some to believe he may move to safety. The real issue around his future is the knee injury he suffered after declaring for the draft. He injured his right knee, tearing his ACL along with a partial tear of his MCL. He will likely miss the entire 2008 season, and was not able to work out for pro teams. He also was arrested two years ago, and has questions to answer surrounding that situation.
Ikegwuonu could play corner or safety in the NFL when healthy. The knee injury causes legitimate concern and casts a cloud over his future in the NFL. Someone may selected him, place him on IR and hope that he is fully recovered and ready to go in 2009. There is no guarantee however.
