Charles had an immediate impact for the Longhorns as a freshman, rushing for 878 yards and 11 touchdowns, while catching 14 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. As a sophomore, he earned All Big 12 honors after rushing for 831 yards and seven touchdowns, to go along with 18 receptions for 183 yards and a touchdown. Charles put it all together as a junior, rushing for 1,619 yards and 18 touchdowns, while adding 17 catches for 199 yards on his way to All Big 12 1st team honors.
Charles has excellent speed and can hit a hole and take it the distance at any time. He can turn the corner with ease and pull away from defenders, or put on a move and make the defender miss. Charles is also a solid interior runner, showing more power than you should think given his size. He runs tough and does not give up easily at the end of runs.
Size is a concern with Charles. He has only average size, and will need to bulk up a bit to be a feature back. He has also had some problems putting the ball on the floor in college.
Charles is a big play back, that can run it between the tackles. He may only have average size, but he more than makes up for that with his big play ability and speed. He has performed well on the field, and showcased his speed at the combine. Depth at the RB position in this draft could push him into the third round, but he is a player that can definitely play in the NFL.
