Finley redshirted his first year in Austin, then became a reliable threat from his TE position as a freshman and sophomore. He hauled in 31 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman. Finley declared after a sophomore year in which he caught 45 passes for 575 yards and two touchdowns.
Finley has big time potential at the tight end position. He has a great frame, with the ability to get even bigger. He has an excellent athlete, and could become an excellent receiver in the NFL. He is quick and has the speed to get down the field to make plays. Finley could be a big time red zone threat because of his athleticism, size, and ball skills.
Finley is raw, and needs a lot of work. He is an overgrown receiver at this point, and much improve his blocking at the next level. He gives effort, just needs to get stronger and put in more work to develop his blocking ability.
Finley declared after his redshirt sophomore year, even though he could have used more work in college. He has the type of athletic ability to have been a first rounder in a year or two, but he has one child and another on the way so he decided now was the best time to leave. He has a ton of potential but may not make much of an impact right away. He can be a factor to catch the ball right now, but he needs to improve his blocking ability to earn consistent playing time.
