Mayo is very active and aggressive at the linebacker position. He quickly reads the action and flies to the football. He has excellent straightline speed, but also shows the ability to change direction and accelerate quickly to be around the action at all times. He is tough, willing to take on bigger players, and will deliver a blow to the ball carrier. Mayo has the versatility to play inside or out in the NFL, making him a fit for most teams.
