Grimes was very durable during his time as a Boilermaker. He was on the field immediately as a freshman and started every game his last three years until he missed two games with an ankle injury as a senior.
Grimes is an intelligent lineman that shows solid all around blocking ability. He sets up quickly in pass protection, and shows very good balance. He shuffles well laterally, and shows the ability to pull down the line of scrimmage and block on the move. As a run blocker, he shows excellent technique, gaining leverage on the defender, tying him up while his back picks up yardage. Grimes is a player that goes full tilt until the whistle blows and does not take plays off.
Grimes gets by more on toughness and determination than physical ability. He lacks the power at the point of attack to drive defenders off the ball and lacks the special mobility to consistently get out and block on the perimeter.
Grimes is smart, tough, and battles on the field. He shows very good technique and that combination of traits should allow him to find a home in the NFL. He may never be a player that blows you away with big blocks but he is consistent and a player you can depend on.
