After redshirting in 2003, Schuening started 12 games as a freshman in 2004, earning Freshman AA honors. He has not let go of that starting job since then, starting 50 consecutive games for the Beavers.
Schuening is a rock in the running game. He has good size, is strong, and plays with a mean streak. He is powerful at the point of attack and can drive defenders off the line of scrimmage. Once he locks on to a defender, he rarely loses control. He has good short area quickness and can block on the move.
Schuening lacks ideal athleticism, and is not a player you will ask to get out and pull much. He can pick up a defender in a short area, but gets lost when he has to cover ground.
Schuening is a talented guard, if you need help in the running game. He can hold his own in pass protection, but his money is made by clearing out running lanes.
