Blake has been a constant pass rush force since his first season at TCU. As a freshman, he had 23 tackles, 6.5 for loss, and five sacks. He was more active as a sophomore, finishing with 57 tackles, 13.5 for loss, and seven sacks. Blake’s numbers were nearly identical as a junior, where he had 54 tackles, 16.5 for loss, and seven sacks. Blake missed some time this season due to personal issues, but he still managed to finish the year with 21 tackles, eight for loss, and four sacks.
Blake is a big time pass rusher, with the ability to take over a game. Defenses must take account of where he is at because he routinely gets into the backfield to make plays. He has a quick burst off the line, but couples that with very good athleticism, and the closing speed to finish plays off. He is not just a pass rusher, he is active and can make plays as a run stopper.
Size as an every down end is one area of concern with Blake. He may lack the bulk and strength to hold up in the running game on a consistent basis. Blake also took some time off just before the season to gather his thoughts before returning to the team. It also put pressure on him during the season, and slowed him down. That period away from his team and the game is going to be an issue Blake will have to answer all season long and all the way up to draft day.
Blake has the talent to be a standout pass rusher in the NFL, and become a first round pick. The biggest issue facing him is going to be what caused him to walk away from his team before the season. That is going to be what teams are most concerned with, and Blake will have to answer those questions leading up to the draft.
