Williams showed his potential early on as a freshman, picking off a pass and finishing with 22 tackles on the year. A year later, he picked off two passes to go along with 39 tackles. He broke out last year, with 49 tackles and a school record tying seven interceptions on his way to All Big East 1st Team honors. Williams continued his standout play as a senior, finishing the year with 50 tackles, 1.5 for loss, .5 sacks, and six interceptions.
Williams has the quickness, athleticism, and toughness to play on Sundays. He is an aggressive corner, that makes plays all over the field. He is active in run support, has excellent cover skills, and even plays on special teams. He has the natural cover ability to run stride for stride with receivers, and the ball skills to find the ball and make a play on it.
Size may be an issue with Trae Williams. He does not appear to be as big as his listed size, and on the field he can be outmuscled for the football. He will not back down, but he lacks the overall size and strength to match up with bigger receivers.
Williams has teamed with Mike Jenkins to form one of the best corner duos in the country, if not the best. Both players will be in the NFL next year, and big workouts could solidify a spot on Day One for both players.
