Falcons to shop Schaub
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Falcons will look to trade QB Matt Schaub. Schaub, a restricted free agent, is expected to receive a one-year tender of $2 million and compensation attachment of a first and third pick to prevent teams from signing him as a free agent.
Since Schaub will become an unrestricted free agent in 2008, the Falcons will shop the talented back up quarterback around the league this off-season. They could net a second or third rounder. The Vikings, Raiders, and Texans are all possible trade partners for Schaub.

Schaub is not worth a first round pick 3rd tops but he is unproven and has yet to start a full season. That said I wouldn't mind seeing him in Minnesota instead of Carr.
If the falcons draft a qb in the second or third round, they're going to draft a highly talented guy like Drew Stanton. They should get a guy that will compete for starter after shaub is gone. I dont think they'll trade shaub. If they trade him, they lose a great backup qb and potentially a starter. They also might not get much out of Shaub, they might get a 4th round pick if lucky.
good i doubt theyll trade him to the panthers but heres hoping
As a Raider fan, I am all about Russell. Also I don't see a team giving a 2nd for him, correct me if I am wrong but he doesn't have anything more than a few years in the league over guys like Stanton and Edwards? They'll be around in the 2nd, with Porter ready to fall in line our WR needs have lessened, I say get Russell, Staley or Ugoh in the 2nd and go from there, let Kiffin start fresh with a QB he can mold.
Teams try to wrestle this guy away from Atlanta every year, so there's a lot of interest in him; and I'm pretty sure someone will give up a 2nd or 3rd-rounder to get him. The big question is, is he really as battle-tested as everyone seems to think he is?
He's "played" in 38 games and started 2. In his 3 seasons in the league, he's thrown 70 passes, 64 passes, and 27 passes, respectively. His percentages in those years: 47.1% in '04, 51.6% in '05, and 66.7% in '06. He has 6 TDs and 6 picks on his career. Having watched him on the field, he's got a lot of potential (decent scrambler, good arm), but I don't think he's the sure-bet future starter that lots of NFL fans and personnel see him as.
This draft is FULL of talent. I just hope that none of the teams I like watching take a gamble on trading for him and hold on to their picks.
Both decent QB's. I doubt the Vikes will trade for either one. Quinn is the answer for either the Vikes or the Raiders....Russell is WAYYY to green to be a top 10 pick.
Have any of you actually watched Schaub play? His bad stats came from games Vick got hurt and he was thrown in there down by two touchdowns with 4 minutes left in the game. He was forced to play trigger happy and never hesitated to play for stats. He plays to win and that's why he has all the hype. The games he's lost has been close and last year when he lost the slug out with Tom Brady the defense had their worst game of the year. His last start he threw around 300 yards with 3 touchdowns and no picks. The Raiders should give up their #1 for Schaub and the Falcons #10 overall if they have any sense. Greg Knapp is now the coordinator and I bet he tries to make something happen.
Schaub, like anyone quarterback in the draft is a risk. If your a team willing to draft staton or Edwards in the second round, why not trade for Schaub. He'll be more prepared to play and make an impact than these guys. At least Schaub has gone against NFL defenses.
Somebody will give up a 2nd or 3rd eventually for Schaub. THe Falcons won't let him walk away as a UFA next year.
I see Schaub going to Kansas City.
I really wish that the Jags would have shopped leftwich & Garrard and maybe trade for Schaub. At Virginia,he played in a pro-style offense under former Jets coach Al Groh.To me,in the 2004 draft,I felt there were only 2 quarterbacks better than him,who just so happen to be Rivers & Roetlisberger.I felt he was a better QB than Manning(Eli)& Losman.I was impressed with him at Virginia & from what I have seen in his couple of NFL starts,I feel that he could be a good NFL QB.I actually think he was a better pure QB than Mike Vick, but never got a chance because of Vick's athleticism(although Schaub has some of his own)and huge salary.Based on skill,I think he is worth at least a 1st day pick.
if stanton actually makes it to the second round i dont see him getting past the browns, raiders of lions depending on if they draft a qb in the first round or not so sorry atlanta fans it'll never happen. just sign brooks and move on.
