Jets consider acquiring Lions pick

The Journal News is reporting there were unconfirmed rumors that the Jets were thinking of swapping their first pick, 25th overall, and a defensive starter, to the Lions for the second overall pick.

We have to assume the 'defensive starter' is linebacker Jonathan Vilma as his name has been the subject of many trade rumors the last few weeks.

this would be a great trade for the lions from a fans point of view. vilma doesnt fit the 3-4 scheme bc he cant constantly take on o-linemen and would be pro bowler in marinelli's 4-3 cover 2 scheme to go alone beside sims. they could then get a solid player with the 25 prob. the best corner left then they have the 2-2 right afterwards. the jets must be looking to grad CJ to help chad out

My god, Pennington to Calvin Johnson would be a great thing.

I think this will never happen. The lions would never trade this pick. The Jets are trying to get this pick because they're trying to get Adrian Peterson

I think this is a good deal for the lions but bad for the jets. Because who would trade a 1st pick AND a good player for a 2nd pick...

The Bears are set to trade Thomas Jones and their 2nd round pick for the Jet's. How can the Jets trade that pick to 2 teams?

That is the craziest thing i ever heard in my life...trading john and 25th overall for 2nd pick overall...johnathan vilma is the jets defensive leader and should remain in a jet uniform...trade dewayne robertson since he's not suitable for a NT playing in a 3-4 defense.

If vilma is up for trade I sure hope the eagles talk with him

I am a packer fan and i don't like this because it would be a good deal for the lions. The lions have high draft picks that don't turn out lately (Harrington, Rogers, M. Williams) so this would be a smart deal for millen and i hope it won't happen

Millen is a moron, Tennenbaum isn't. Vilma struggled in the beginning of the year, but he got a lot better as the season went on. Plus he is a billboard player, there is too much revenue tied up with him.

I could Ellis or D-Rob from the line, maybe Erik Coleman, or David Barrett who are more suited to the old system. The Lions now really need some help in the secondary with Bly gone.

I think this would be a good trade for both teams. Lions would get a very good LB and also another quality player. The Jets with CJ or Peterson would be a good fit for them. I like it because it makes sense.

If in fact there is any truth to this rumor...it would be a job saver for Millen..he gets a proven player in vilma and still a possible rookie starter at 25th.
Its better than taking a skinny armed fatbody with nimble feet like Joe Thomas...If they keep the pick Detroit should take Johnson at 2 forget the past busts at reciever..REPLY WADE89

Dewayne Roberston is the best player in the Jets front 7. THis Vilma trade would be a steal for the JEts.

This would be a awesome trade, where I believe the Jets will go for Joe Thomas. Last year they picked up O-linemen with their first two picks. Creating a very young line with Thomas Jones in the back would be awesome! Vilma is a good player, but not in the 3-4 scheme. Everyone is projected the Lions to take Thomas and with the Denver trade and picking up Foster I think they would like to take a different route. D'Freg, Thomas and Manigold...awesome!

JETS make the deal, Hell with Cj or Peterson, take Quinn to replace Pennington.
I would give the #25 and Chad and Vilma for the #2 and switch picks in the 2nd rnd.
Take Quinn at #2
Take Tank Tyler at #34
Take Brian Leonard or Woodley at #57

Why don't the Jets give Millen Coles for the pick? Last year the Jets offered Coles for Branch but NE turned it down. Millen has gotten burned on 3 #1 picks at WR. Coles could thrive in Martz's offense. The interesting question is do the Jets take Calvin J or Joe T? I would think They'd take Joe and secure both tackle spots for the next 10 years. I love Calvin, but the Pats system which they Jets are using doesn't include big name WRS

jets should trade their 2nd rounders to the eagles for their first and maybe dhani jones. then trade both first rounders to the lions for the 2nd pick

Now that the Jets have acquired Thomas Jones, they can look at defense and wide receivers. If they got this pick, they would likely take Calvin Johnson.

I'm a Jets fan and there is no way in He-- they get rid of Vilma. To say he's not suited in the 3-4 is rediculous. He's had one season under the 3-4 which makes him that much better heading into '07. As for aquiring the Lion's pick, don't rule it out. Jet's have a lot to offer the Lions with a late 1st rounde and 2 2nd round picks. Lions are know for bad top draft choices so moving down isn't a bad idea for them.
