Read an article over on nfl.com about how the switch to the 3-4 will really affect this draft as teams scramble to pick up bigger DEs/DTs that can eat up space while adding pass rushers that can be converted to OLBs.
He mentioned 6 of the top 13 are switching to the 3-4.
I think SF, Miami, Cleveland, and Houston are all switching. Who else?
Denver also comes to mind.
Who is already a 3-4. (New England, obviously)

The San Diego Chargers also play a 3-4. Here's a list of all the teams who will be a 3-4 in the 2005-2006 NFL season.
New England Patriots
Cleveland Browns
Pittsburgh Steelers
Houston Texans
Oakland Raiders
San Diego Chargers
San Francisco 49ers _________________

My bad. I knew they were trying to trade or waive Jamie Sharper because he didn't really fit their defense. Thought it was because of a change, but I guess it was just a realization he is not really a 3-4 LB.
By the way, I thought Denver was switching to the 3-4? Somewhere I found that tidbit because I found it amusing that Cleveland was dumping Warren and Brown because they didn't fit the 3-4 scheme but Denver was picking them up because they thought they fit the 3-4.
later,

Denver is supposed to be running mostly 4-3, but adding 3-4 formations into their defense, not running is as their base defense. |

The Cowboys are considering utilizing more 3-4 sets.
The Raiders are, apparently, trying to move back to a 4-3. That is at least what I have heard. |

It sounds like the Raiders are looking into going back to a 4-3. It would really help there D because they don't have the talent at LB to run the 3-4. |

Norv Turner already said that the Raiders are gonna switch back to a 4-3, and i don't blame him cuz tryin to use the personnel they had to run a 3-4 was a disaster. The Ravens are also gonna switch back to a 4-3.
Teams that are gonna use the 3-4 next season are:
New England Patriots
Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland Browns
Houston Texans
San Diego Chargers
San Francisco 49ers
I guess u could also have the Cowboys and Broncos in this list to, but Shanahan said that the 3-4 wouldn't be the base defense for the Broncos, but would be used more in situational times. As for the Cowboys, it's more of a story of if they have the personnel and depth to run the 3-4. If they don't quite have enough, they'll probably do the same as the Broncos are gonna do, and use it at certain times.

The Pats base may be considered the 3-4 but they really play everything....in the superbowl they played more of a 4-3 than a 3-4 and with the talent and depth we have across the line and the unfortunate stroke suffered by bruschi I can see the pats going with a little more 4-3 than 3-4 this year.
Our d-line
Richard Seymore
VinceWilfork
Ty Warren
Keith traylor
Jarvis Green
Rodney Bailey
Marquise Hill
All these guys are in their mid to early 20's (except traylor) and Jarvis Green, Traylor, and Rodney Bailey could all start for some teams in the NFL...but the one to watch is Hill...he is a Seymore clone in size and athletic ability all he needs is a little coaching and he is only 21...Could be seymore's replacement if he looks to break the bank when his contract comes up. |
