After cooling off my thoughts.
Goodbye Richie & Carter, those 2 are and were great players here and I'm gonna miss them.
That said I'm excitied we added the best prospect in hockey, Voracek, who is a young and talented player, Simmonds, who gives us some grit on the wing, and a top 10 pick, and the expected move up to get Landeskog.
Also excited we finally got a good goalie in Bryzgalov. He's probably got 5 top notch years left, and hopefully 2 more of solid #1 play so that 7 year 48 million dollar deal works out all 7 years, while the last 2 just go by the way side as he retires or becomes the backup.
Also excited we still are 9 million according to Meltzer over the cap to re-sign Leino, Voracek, Nodl, Simmonds, Powe, and maybe O'Donnell, if we trade Versteeg to move up to 3, that clears up around 4 more million as well. Plus hopefully adding Landeskog who looks like a star in the making. _________________

While I'm not a Flyers fan, taking the night to sort of recollect my thoughts on the trades, the one resounding feeling I have is that it's more just a shame than anything. As fans there's nothing we like more than having great players who want to play for our favorite teams, and Richards and Carter definitely wanted to be Flyers for life - that to me is what sucks the most out of all this.
I still don't buy that there will be a legitimate deal for a trade up to get Gabriel Landeskog just yet, but we'll see. Lots of activity is expected from everybody today.
Cheers! _________________

You mean Schenn not Voracek but yeah we got some nice prospects but a lot of work to do. Hopefully it all pans out. _________________

I think he meant Voracek, in addition to Schenn. _________________

Oh and I'm playing around with cap geek and I truly don't see what these trades did for us. Both Voracek and Simmonds are RFA. I assume they will both command around $2-2.5M. This leaves us with only $2.3 with Leino still to be resigned. This is incredibly stupid to me, hopefully I'm not seeing something here. _________________

After cooling off on the trades I see why we needed to trade Carter, he's a partier. If the kid we want is as good as you say he is then I would be happy with both of the trades. _________________

After cooling off from my initial reactions I think I'm ok with both deals. I hated the fact that we were so close to the Cup and just traded away two "faces of the franchise" and completely overhauled this team. The Richards one obviously hurt the most because he was our captain and a great two way player but the picks/players we got back from moving those two gave us a legitimate amount of cap space to actually add to the team and make it stronger. I really hope we are able to make the move to add Landeskong (or take Larsson as a consolation). _________________

That is the thing though... it didn't. Because we traded for two RFAs in Voracek and Simmonds who we have to re-up and then we still have to resign Leino. Assuming we Lappy comes off the books and so does one of our goalies either Leighton or Bob then we have about $10.2 mill to sign Powe, Leino, Voracek, Simmonds, and possibly Nodl. _________________

I can see Carter, but I still don't get trading Richie. He's young and likes to party, but he still comes to play every game and is just one of the better two-way Center's in the league.
He was a fan favorite and will be sorely missed, and I think this will be a costly mistake in the end. |

With Setoguchi signing a 3 year $9mill deal I can't see Leino getting any more than 3. Having said that Voracek may get slightly more than 2.2 and Simmonds may get 2 though 1.8 seems fair. Powe at 1.2 seems like a pretty generous increase for a guy that doesn't do anything great. Don't see how waiving Shelley helps at all I think we'd still have to eat his contract. Trading Versteeg is just about the only thing we can hope for. _________________
