Absolutely sacks are more important than just regular tackles, but not turnovers. Especially in todays NFL, where you can sack Rodgers or Brees on 1st or 2nd down, and they will just complete a pass for 15 yards and a 1st down with absolute ease on 3rd down. In today's NFL, turnovers are even more valuable, and Suggs forced 4 more turnovers than Allen.
He also had more tackles for loss and passes defended.
Suggs stats measure up quite nicely with Allen's. When you consider the stage he did it on (lit up the primetime games) and the defense that he anchored, Suggs has a convincing case over Allen. _________________

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but Suggs has 10 Stuffs to Allen's 4 with his average stuff an impressive 3.3 yards behind the LoS. Stuffs are essentially sacks in the running game.
Suggs is not as good a pass rusher as Allen, but Allen isn't as good in run defense as Suggs. _________________

BALL SO HARD. I thought Allen deserved the award, but T-Sizzle was a close second. _________________

I would've had it Allen, Suggs, Smith. I'm actually laughing that Bowman and Woodson got votes. _________________

Yep, the voters seem to be generally clueless. Allen gets one more sack, he runs way with this award as he would have broken a major NFL record and the voters would have then taken notice. but since allen was a sack short, they give it to suggs.
i thought JPP was more deserving than Suggs personally. |

I didn't watch any other Viking games aside from their game against the Raiders. Jared Allen was shutdown by Jared Veldheer and was a non-factor in that game. I'm guessing that was his worst game of the season? _________________

So, while Strahan had more tackles, forced fumbles, and TDs, Allen had more fumble recoveries, interceptions, passes defended and safeties. I don't think you can differentiate the two based on stats at least. |
i think fumble recoveries is a terrible point to back your argument, forced fumbles it the statistic to use. strahan had more tackles, more FF's, and TDs. Where Allen had more ints, PD's and safeties. Fumble recoveries is a very weak argument. People talk about the favre sack, but allen has gotten sacks without even touching the QB, where the Qb has run out of bounds for a loss of yards which really is ridiculous. _________________

I disagree. I think Suggs deserved this award
Allen
46 tackles
22.0 sacks
4 forced fumbles
4 recovered fumbles
1 interception
4 passes defended
1 safety
0 TD
Suggs
52 tackles
14.0 sacks
7 forced fumbles
0 recovered fumbles
2 interceptions
6 passes defended
0 safety
0 TD
JPP
72 tackles
16.5 sacks
2 forced fumbles
0 recovered fumbles
0 interceptions
7 passes defended
1 safety
0 TD
I can see a case for either of those guys, but I think Suggs had the all around best season. He had the high sack numbers, was a leader on a top-notch defense (that was w/o Ray Lewis for 4 games and had a banged up Ngata), caused more turnovers than the other guys and played in pass coverage far more than those guys as well. As mentioned above, I can see a compelling case for any of those guys, but to say the voters are clueless or that this is some great travesty is foolish IMO. Additionally, I'm somewhat tired of the "if Allen get just one more sack..." argument. The fact is that he didn't, thus he didn't break the record, thus the voters aren't taking into account the historic accomplishment. _________________

You have to look at the situations Terrell stepped up and literally was a game changer, you have to consider tat when doing your votes. You can't seriously look at flat out stats and come to an conclusion. Steelers first game Suggs literally dominanted the whole game and had Ben rattled( 3 or 4 ints he threw) Next Steeler game, they are driving and Suggs grabs an INT which in the end save dus the game, they were down by our 20 yard line and more than likely coming out with a score. He was huge against the 49er's coming up with some nice stuffs and keeping Alex Smith on the run. You have to ake that into acocunt. He was much more of a cluTch player than Allen. That's what won him the award. _________________

i thought JPP was more deserving than Suggs personally. | Your logic makes you look clueless. Voters take into account the big game changing plays and also the value he was to our defense and how he stepped up when he was needed. Obviously he didn't have a killer game every single week, nobody does. Consider what he has done for us, he clearly deserved it over Allen who played on one of the worst teams this year and really didn't contribute anything in the win column. Of course I know it's a team game but Suggs literally was the difference in us losing and winning a few games _________________
