Thoughts?
Casillas
Ramos-Puyol-Piqué-Alba(???)
Iniesta-Busquets-Xavi
Fabregas-Silva-Pedro
If Villa is fit then put Pedro on the bench.
Subs: Valdes, Marchena, Capdevila, Xabi Alonso, Cazorla, Torres, Llorente.
The way I see it is the one thing Spain don't have is Messi, and the one thing Barca don't have is Silva, so Silva is Spain's Messi. _________________

I would also say Iniesta plays further forward than Fabregas.
And I wouldn't be comfortable with a front 3 of Fab, Silva and Pedro. There is no out and out goalscorer.
It would be like playing Portugal. _________________

Spain is just too ridiculously deep. Juan Mata has been one of the best players in the premier league this year and he couldn't even make the bench _________________

| Silva isn't much of a finisher, unfortunately. |

The problem for Spain is going to be the final third and can they finish. If they can find someone who can run their system and finish than they will have a good chance in winning. They need to find their Messi, and I think it can be Mata.
Edit: my formation would look:
Ramos-Puyol-Piqué-Enrique (alba)
Silva-Busquets-Xavi
Inesita-Mata-Pedro
Silva is too dangers to not have in the line up and I think Inesita is better on the wing Fabergas. Enrique will not even get the call up but he the best Spanish defending left back, Alba is better at getting forward. So if I was the manager depending what I want my full backs to do that game/their match up I would pick between these two |

| Raul/Llorente/Soldado needs to be the goalscorers and CFs. Villa will just be coming from injury and Torres shouldn't make the squad. |

Since everybody else posted a 4-3-3...
Xabi Alonso and Busquets are easily interchangeable. So is Fabregas/Iniesta and Iniesta/Silva.
I'd leave Pedro on the bench tbh. _________________

Xabi Alonso and Busquets do two different roles... One is deep lying playmaker who can be defensive while the other one retains possession and breaks up plays.
I wouldn't leave Pedro on the bench. Both Silva and Mata go inside to play plays, but Pedro actually stays on the flank and provides width which helps Spain not become so narrow and predictable in their play. |

True. That's why Xabi Alonso and Busquets both started in the World Cup. Honestly, Spain's probably going to stick with that formation.
And Pedro is true too, but I just personally can't put him in over Mata or Silva. _________________

I know from their current performances you can't think about putting Pedro over Mata or Silva, but width is necessary with the tiki-taka as we saw in the first match against Switzerland in South Africa and even in the friendly against England not too long ago.
Pedro, Santi Cazorla, Jesus Navas will be my choices for wingers to provide width. |

I would start Navas over all of the names mentioned above on the right wing. Iniesta on the left. Xavi/Busquets/Alonso midfield.
Yeah they're leaving world class players on the bench in Silva, Mata, Fabregas, etc., but the system isn't broke, why fix it? I think they can hold that core formation together until after the 2014 World Cup, when Xavi will be 34, Alonso 33. Then there will be central positions open for the likes of Silva, Fabregas to move into a starting role. _________________

Spain need some true width on at least one wing. _________________

Well it is a bit broken. see this article: http://www.zonalmarking.net/2011/11/14/del-bosque-spain-tactics-false-nine-euro-2012/
I really think they need to switch up the 433 to a 4231, the seem better fit for that
something like
ramos-Pique-Puyol-Abla
--------Xavi--Busquest---
Iniesta---Silva----Mata
----------Villa---------
Xavi playing in front of Busquest and if Villa hurt/not fit put in Soldado. Ramos and Abla will keep the width. The problem is this team is really weak defensively especially on the left. If the other team has a stronger left winger/midfielder I would put in Enrique and Pedro. |
