| Agreed, GB is severely lacking in talent on defense. They need a 5 tech, an OLB, some depth in the secondary, and a future replacement for Woodson. |

Disagree. That's one of the reasons I look negatively upon Capers.
We only had two losses from last year's D: Jenkins and Collins. We still have talent on every level of the defense: Raji and Pickett up front, Matthews and Bishop in the middle, and Woodson, Williams, Shields, Burnett and (hopefully) Collins in the secondary. All of these guys are quality players and there was no way we should have put up a historically bad defense.

Tramon Williams and Sam Shields seemed to regress a bit this year, and surely Nick Collins was missed. Collins out forced Burnett to play out of position and Charlie Peprah had to see the field, which probably isnt a good thing.
I do agree, the Packers have talent but that talent was not playing to the level of 2010. |

Yes, player regression played a part in it. But for the most part, those are the same guys that suited up for us in 2010. Williams dealt with a shoulder injury that nagged him for most of the season, but Shields had a lackluster season that disappointed in comparison to his steller rookie year. Losing Collins really hurt Burnett, but he turned it on towards the end of the year without a club on his hand. The bane of our defense this year was Erik Walden, and despite everyone behind him being better options, Capers continued to start him until the playoff game.
Our defense's failure to execute falls largely on the coaching staff, imo.

Too be honest, I wasn't overly impressed with any of your linebackers outside Clay Matthews. Not to mention Raji, who really took a step back this year (at least in those two Min vs. GB games I saw).

Though Jermichael Finley is listed as a tight end, not even coach Mike McCarthy sees him that way entirely.
McCarthy: "He's a tight end, but he also plays the one receiver situation and the No. 2 slot sometimes and plays in the one slot to the three-man side. Those are the type of things when playing in a multiple offense, we treat all the perimeter players the same because it's about matchups. They have to play all the positions."
If Finley wants to make a case that he should be viewed as a wide receiver when it comes to negotiating his contract, McCarthy just made the perfect argument for him. So, if Thompson decides to use the Packers' franchise tag on Finley, the issue won't be as simple as welcoming him back on a one-year deal with no questions asked.
At the end of the season, Finley made it clear that he won't accept the franchise tag if it results in getting paid like a tight end. When asked whether he and his agent will make the argument Finley should be classified as a wide receiver, Finley replied: “I guarantee you that's what route we'll go. Hands down.”

Packers center Scott Wells is coming off his best season at age 31 and has plenty of leverage. It sounds like he intends on using it.
Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel makes the convincing case that the newly minted Pro Bowler is likely to leave Green Bay in free agency.

It really isnt. If Finley hit the open market, he would have gotten so much more. im shocked that Finley accepted such a short term and relatively cheap contract. he must have really wanted to stay in GB. |

Also gives him a chance to hit free agency again at 26 when the salary cap is gonna take a pretty big bump up with the new TV money hitting.
