Hawks lose 4-0 to the Kings. I wonder if they make any significant moves at the trade deadline. _________________ Martellus Bennet highlight video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lP8fHN53t0 |

They absolutely need to. Bowman cant just stick his head in the sand and pray its going to work. If he does that itll end very ugly. _________________

The Blackhawks make two trades this afternoon. Nothing too big.
Trade #1 - Hawks traded the 2nd and 3rd round picks in 2013 to the Jets for D-man Johnny Oduya.
Trade #2 - Hawks traded John Scott to the Rangers for the 5th round pick in 2012.
I'm glad they didn't make any big splash today. If anything, I would have preferred that the Hawks be sellers. There weren't a lot of sellers this year. They could gotten some prospects/picks back for a non-core player. Like in 2010-11, I've accepted that 2011-12 is another transition season. They aren't built to be serious Cup contenders yet due to lack of depth, no second line center, and a bad defense. Even if they did go all-in it would have been too big of a hill to climb. But I do like what the Hawks have with their prospects. I'm a big believer that things will get very good again within the next 2 years. I was afraid that Bowman would go all-in this year and mortgage what should be a great future. Really glad that they basically just swapped Oduya (UFA after season) for John Scott.
I think they will be at-best a 2nd round exit this year. But unlike the past two offseasons, the Hawks will have cap room to make some moves. Along with the kids in Rockford coming along, 2012-13 Hawks should take the next step. They'll have better depth and free agency can fix some of the holes. They'll go deep in 2012-13 and win the Cup again in 2013-14 IMO. It just takes patience. _________________

Wow, this was a real inactive thread this year.
The Chicago Blackhawks finished the 2011-12 season with the 6th seed at 45-26-11 (101 pts) which was a 4 point improvement over last season. It is a great record considering they went through a 9 game losing streak in late-Jan/early-Feb. They've also been without Jonathan Toews since February 19th, who was out with a concussion. Without their captain, the Hawks went 13-5-4. He is expected to return for Game 1. A nice addition to the team was the acquisition of Johnny Oduya at the trade deadline. Since he joined the team, the Hawks have gone 12-2-4. That's only two regulation losses in over a month.
They will play the 3rd seeded Pacific division champion, Phoenix Coyotes, who finished 42-27-13 (97 pts) in the first round.
Game 1 @ Phoenix Thu. Apr. 12 9:00p.m.
Game 2 @ Phoenix Sat. Apr. 14 9:00p.m.
Game 3 @ Chicago Tue. Apr. 17 8:00p.m.
Game 4 @ Chicago Thu. Apr. 19 7:00p.m.
Game 5*** @ Phoenix Sat. Apr. 21 9:00p.m.
Game 6*** @ Chicago Mon. Apr. 23 TBD
Game 7*** @ Phoenix Wed. Apr. 25 TBD _________________

Awful game last night. Hawks played well for the first few minues of the game, then the last few minutes of the 3rd. The rest of the game, the Hawks looked slow and out of sync.
That first power play of the 3rd period was absolutely brutal to watch.
Seemed like the same problems that plagued the Hawks all year: guys are just enough out of position to miss out on big goals, ineptness on the power play, maddening defensive lapses, and, maybe worst of all, you can see the goals they give up coming a mile away. |

I'm from Chicago then lived in Arizona for 15 years (now currently in CA) so when it comes to sports I'll take the Bears,Cubs,Bulls over the Cards,D-Backs,Suns. BUT when it comes to the Coyotes and Blackhawks... LET'S GO YOTES!!
My family was at the game last night and said they have never seen Jobing.com Arena that electrifying. Hopefully this goes 7 games. |

Torres is gonna get suspended for that for a loooooong time. Especially as a repeat offender, not just earlier this year but he concussed Seabrook with Vancouver in last years playoffs too with an illegal hit. _________________

He went to Northwestern, of course. Like Knox he was in some of the best hands in town. |

As the resident Canadian I thought I would way in,
1. Andrew Shaw getting 3 games is a joke, I know we need to protect goalies but that was a flop.
2. The Hossa hit was late and he launched himself and he will get suspended for 4 games in my opinion. I was waiting for someone on the 4th line to do something about it. I do not think that hit on a star player would have gone unpunished when Eager and Big Buff were on the team.
3. Hjamlarsson is so soft on the puck for a defense man with no offense it is scary. I still cannot believe they let Nemi walk to re-sign this guy. _________________
