Good thread, although the offense has been boom or bust since a long time ago. At least since 2007.
The turnovers have to bee the most important issue. Those red-zone stats are really interesting. For that, the interior line (and obviously Vick) have to do a better job. I'm really excited to see how they do with a full season under their belt and an off-season to work together. And let's see how much Danny Watkins improves.
BTW, I don't mean to steer this thread the wrong direction, but how did our interior line played the running game? I've had this question for a long time. _________________

Love Vick, hes my favorite player in the NFL.
He might be the most gifted player in the league, if he plays to his potential We will win a SB.
with that being said he needs 2 read defenses better and be smarter 2 stay healthy all year, and i wish was taller his ht is a disadvantage to us.
hope desean/mathis resign and we can get a 1st off-season together. _________________

<3 this thread!
Vick needs big weapons, hes 6 foot, he cant be throwing to some one his exact same height, look at who Brees throws to, big targets who can get up and climb the ladder.

He is certainly still the most electrifying player in the game today he can turn a disastrous play into a miraculous effort, but he can also turn a play into a disaster at any moment. He doesn't hold the ball well and he doesn't make good reads. Having said that, he wasn't as bad as his numbers may have indicated. I think Mike Vick can be a successful QB in the NFL, hell, he has already been to a NFC championship game with a far inferior team with Atlanta. So all those saying you can't win with him, I disagree. But he needs to protect the ball better than he did last year. _________________

Vick is a very gifted talent. However, he's not the greatest QB. If you can surround him with a good o line and some weapons coupled with a decent defense, he can win you games. A super bowl would be tough, but if the o line stays healthy and gels together faster and the defense can hold a lead, the eagles are back on top next year. Vick is not our problem, although not a world beater. _________________

Besides Kevin Kolb as a Rookie have you ever liked a single Eagles QB? I honestly can't remember anything positive being said by you about our QB outside the brief man crush on Kolb. Which had more to do with despising Mcnabb then Kevin. _________________

I think this season Vick will do a lot better, but last year wasnt just his fault for the lack of production half of the turnovers were due to WR tipping balls, fumbling, and not catching correctly.
I think vick needs to run, him not running makes defenses plan easier for him, He needs to stay dual threat, BUT SLIDE or go out of bounds, and were good |

That is true in general, but Lance Moore is a good exception to that rule. He managed to catch 16 TD passes over the last two seasons and he is only 5'9".
I think we all agree that this offense is terrible incosistent, that is one area where we definitely need improvement. Although there were some very impressive, long drives last year we live or die with the big play.
We need to increase the efficiency of the short and intermediate plays.
Let Vick move out from the pocket with run/pass options to his left.
Utilize bootlegs more often.
Use the 22 personnel and play action fakes. I was wondering all the time why Andy didn't want to build on the emergence of Shady??
Let the nr 2 RB run the ball more (and not just 2 touches per game) to give Shady a breather every once in a while.
Use more RB screens and more screens overall. If I recall it correctly, the majority of these screens went to the TE (Celek) or the WR (Maclin).
Also, I think keeping DeSean is a must since Vick's biggest strength is the deep ball on seven step drops, which we need to incorporate into our offense to keep defenses accountable for that as well.
Inserting crossing routes and let the receivers gain YAC. I think Maclin would be very good in a role like that.
To be able to implement these changes I think we need
- complete mindset change (Andy and Marty)
- full offseason preparation for the O-line, Vick and the core offensive weapons (no holdout and no late key additions)
- new nr 2 RB, who is trusted by the coaching staff (it can be Lewis as well if he performs well during the offseason, but he definitely needs competition)
- new TE
- Michael Floyd
(he is not really a must, he is just my favorite player from the draft and I'd love to have hom on our roster.)

Good post furti.
As far as Vick running, I really don't mind him running the ball but he really has to take care of himself in the open field.
With McCoy on the same field, it should open things up for Vick, and if they spy Vick, then opens things up for McCoy. _________________

Half his interception were because of people hitting right before he threw the ball (Part of this is his fault, but also O-line for not protecting him better and Receivers getting open), or tipped pass by Receivers.
Ideally, Marty & Andy will use Shady more, but also get the backup Running back involved. And use Celek god dammit! |
This. Half of his picks were batted balls. He definitely needs to tuck the ball when he runs. When he scrambles past the LOS he still holds the ball like he has an intention to throw it and he showed it in the Falcons game. The Eagles really should sign Plax as Vick needs a big body receiver that he can see down the field. |

I would cream my jorts something fierce if we got RG3, too bad we didn't play any real teams down the stretch could have had a new coach and been in a better spot for Robert. |
