#Vikings to release starting OGs Steve Hutchinson and Anthony Herrera, according to person with direct knowledge of the situation.

I would of at least liked to keep Herrera, if for nothing else but depth. But hopefully this means its a total overall on the O-Line.

Perhaps now we will have the cap room and can snag Levi Brown, since the Cards will most likely cut him, and then can move Charlie Johnson to guard?

Not for his salary.

I hope we try to bring back Hutch at a reduced rate. I feel like he wants to finish out his career here, and he would offer veteran leadership on the line.

This move probably saves us close to $10M in cap room.

Making room for some FA help hopefully.

Moral of the story. Don't over pay for a Guard.

Makes me a happy person! There is no room for Herrera and Hutch on this team, and the cap savings of $10M will be nice! I hope Ced Griffin is next. I wouldnt have minded Herrera, but i preferred for him to be gone. Many felt the team would remain committed to Herrera, but i am not sure they can anymore with his injury history. Love/Fusco should get first crack at RG, and Johnson should get first crack at LG assuming MN gets Kalil.

Hopefully MN can add a free agent or a mid round pick as well. Overall, these moves were needed as they served no purpose on team going forward and took up a hefty chunk of cap space.

Levi Brown stinks, he is a terrible LT. Maybe Brown can play LG.

I see a veteran team like the Ravens signing hutchinson after they lose Grubbs.

McKinnie - hutch - Birk in Bmore?

More importantly this shows Spielman is going to do things his way and not try to pander to Leslie.

That is precisely how the GM of an organization should run things.

After watching Ponder get hammered right up the gut of the offensive line this shouldn't be a surprise. Add in how we struggled on 3rd and short situations with the type of running backs we have.

Clearing up some cap to make a play for Vincent Jackson or Carl Nicks? Lets hope so!

This move makes even more probable that we stay and draft Kalil and see what we have with Fusco at guard, and possibly moving Johnson over.

http://www.vikings.com/news/article-1/Vikings-Announce-Roster-Moves/717a9355-1539-46a1-a72e-2439caf87192

Quote:
The Minnesota Vikings have announced the following roster moves:

RELEASED
CB Cedric Griffin
G Anthony Herrera
G Steve Hutchinson

Head Coach Leslie Frazier - “It was a tough decision as we move forward and prepare for the upcoming season and the future of our organization. All three individuals have meant a great deal to the Vikings organization both on and off field over the years. We wish all of them the best and thank them for their service to the Minnesota Vikings.”

Looks like Griffin got released as well

EDIT: Someone beat me too it...

Also S Jarrod Page signed a minor league baseball contract with the Dodgers

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/eye-on-baseball/17707700/dodgers-sign-vikings-safety-jarrad-page-to-a-minor-league-deal

Quote:
Vikings safety Jarrad Page is following in the footsteps of NFL defensive backs Deion Sanders and Brian Jordan, signing a minor-league deal with Dodgers, according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick.

Page, 27, went to a Dodgers tryout last week and apparently played well enough to interest the Dodgers.
