Yeah...thats the most important thing.
People get too focused on the overall amount when they should focus more on this. |
We've got a lot to learn. |
guaranteed money and conditions are a big thing for me. Paying him more than Colston by a couple mil is ridiculous. I'm hoping its low in guarantees and has a drop off year likes Vicks did where once he hits an easily attainable amount of snaps/catches/yards 20 million and the last year of the contract drop off. _________________

So I wonder what comes next...Shady's extension? After reading about what the new tv deals will do to salaries...it's smart to get these guys locked up now for the immediate future with Vick and for later with whomever is the next franchise guy. |
Exactly. Our FO is great at thinking 2 steps ahead. |

If that is correct, that isn't too bad at all. _________________

Desean's deal is 5 years 47 million
| Quote: | A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Jackson has agreed to a five-year deal with a base value of $47 million. Jackson also gets $15 million fully guaranteed.
He gets $10 million to sign, along with a $750,000 base salary and a $250,000 workout bonus in 2012.
In 2013, Jackson receives a $6.75 million base salary, $4 million of which is fully guaranteed. The other $2.75 million is guaranteed for injury only. He also will receive a $250,000 workout bonus, which increases the two-year take to $18 million.
In 2014, Jackson will receive a base salary of $10.25 million, $250,000 of which is fully guaranteed. $500,000 of it is fully guaranteed. He also will be eligible for a $250,000 workout bonus.
In 2015, the base salary will be $9.75 million, with a $250,000 workout bonus.
And in 2016, the base salary will be $8.25 million, with a $250,000 workout bonus.

Typical over reaction in this thread already. The only number that matters is the guarenteed money. The eagles will protect themselves as always. He's not being rewarded for last season he's being rewarded for the previous 4 seasons combined. You all remember right. The same WR that is the cog that allows this engine to run properly. I fully expect Desean to have his best season to date next year because of all the doubters including and primarily eagle fans. I guarentee NFCE DC and secondaries are not happy about this signing believe me. _________________

I personally believe this was a good signing and i like what the Eagles are doing by signing their own players! DeSean demands respect from defenses and makes life easier for McCoy and Maclin! _________________

Not to bad cap wise actually. They probably could have made it a little less considering the Colston/Meachem/Johnson contracts but its not terrible and I won't bicker over a couple million as long as he performs up to the contract. I really like the injury cuts and hope they actually run throughout the contract. _________________

| It sounds like a 2 year contract where the Eagles get the guaranteed money out of the way early making Desean have to keep up production if he wants the high salary in year 3 of the deal. Seems like the Eagles view everything as a "2 year window" if you look at the contracts on the books including Reid's which I believe has 2 years remaining and Vick has something like 1 or 2 years left where after that the Eagles can cut ties. |

That's about fair. Gives him the 'big' contract he wants, but small guaranteed money in case he gets injured or the new coach doesn't like him. _________________

Although I agree with the remainder of your post Nabbs, I think this portion is clearly up for debate. _________________
