I expect Ponder to be upright after releasing a pass more often than he was in 2012.

I expect a moderately higher completion percentage in 2012 vs 2011.

I expect a few steps backward, but more steps forward.

I expect Ponder will not win a SB after the 2012 season. I'm ok with that. But only for 2012.

I expect to see a game manager. If we don't improve the receiving corps and offensive line, it will be tough sledding for him. I see him in the middle of the pack after a full offseason.

Overall, I see a guy who may make 2 or 3 Pro Bowls over the course of his career, but will never be considered "elite". Still, plenty of "very good" QB's have won in the NFL.

Ponder to be bashed pretty heavily in this thread.

That would be too easy.

I'd expect Ponder to show some improvement and win some games, but it might be hard to do with a lack of ground game and looking up from his back.

If the front office does not provide him with better protection, then there is not much he can do, other than run for him life. You might say we have an offensive line ... if that were the case then why did it suck so much last season?, if the players we have are that good, then why were they not in the game and providing the protection and blocking for the RB's. You can have the greatest of running back to help the QB, but then if you can not block and create holes ... anyway Ponder has much to prove and unless he is given protection and weapons to throw to, he's not going to last very long.

Even if Webb comes in ... what then, he looks exciting at times, but he has not proven anything as of this time either. No OL no ground game, No OL no protection and no plays down field. it's that simple.

Maybe by 2014 we will have the players needed to compete in this division and by then you will want your QB to either be good or be released. It's way to early to say he sucks and will never amount to anything. Same thing was said about Alex smith and now look at him.

If we draft Kalil, I think Ponder will perform well enough for us to be in the running for a USC QB in the draft.

I definitely wanted RGII as our QB following the draft, but seeing as how he wouldn't have even fell to us anyway, that's water under the birdge for me now.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what direction Ponder heads in. I've always known him to make a few bad turnovers, and really crumble when the pressures on. Hopefully, Ponder can progress in his second year. I'd say going into the offseason as the starter will be good for his confidence.

What I like about Ponder the most is his ability to make plays with his legs when the play breaks down. He has deceptive speed, and is probably the 3rd fastest starting QB in the league

HIJACK!!! There are plenty of threads to bash the selection of Kalil.

Okay, so Vick and Newton...

I'd say Rodgers is pretty fast, Tebow, Freeman, and Tarvaris Jackson.

Its a hard case to argue. I'd say top 5 fastest, but i don't think that makes a difference.

projected over the whole season, even though I don't care much for stats, I could see him throwing anywhere from 18-23 TDs, and 10-12 INTs, just under 4000 yards passing, and add 300 yards rushing.

I feel this offense will definitally grow in its second year, and Carlson/Rudolph will quite literally have their hands full.

Ponder has already gone on record as saying that year 2 from his first year has been where he made his biggest improvements.

I say 60% completion, 3000 yards, 21 TD's, 7 interceptions and I would be very happy Smile

Zero chance he throws a 3:1 TD:Int ratio. No way.

I suppose something like 22 td's, 18 picks, 56% completion, 175 yards per game would be what I'd expect, if he goes for most of the year, but we'd need to see the draft & FA play out to get a better handle on what's possible.

It has happened before and I do see Ponder as very intelligent to make this happen. Look at Freeman in his 2nd year. He had better then a 3 to 1 ratio.

Ponder is no Freeman, though. I would take Freeman over him any day of the week - especially Sundays Wink

Freeman was not that much higher ranked coming out of college. Ponder was a 2nd/3rd rounder and Freeman was a 2nd rounder I think if memory serves me ranked anyways. We know they were both taken before their draft value in the first round.

My bet is that Ponder will surprise us this coming season especially if we get him a deep threat either in the draft or FA.
