MSU won by 22... |
As they should have.
When I typed that the game either hadn't started yet or was early in the game. It wasn't a shot at either OSU or MSU, just saying they should have won by double digits (and did) because they are way more talented with players and coaches than their opponents. Saying the Big Ten isn't inconsistent or isn't overrated at times because OSU and MSU beat a 15 and 16 seed respectively is a major reach. |
It's a long season not every team is like Kentucky and can play consistently well throughout a 30 game season. Every team has its own inconsistencies. Some more than others. I think Michigan St and Ohio St are a lot less inconsistent than a team like Michigan or Indiana. Michigan has made huge strides since Beilein has gotten there, but they aren't on the same level yet as MSU or OSU. They'll be there soon enough, but they don't have the tournament experience yet. |
I agree with you 100%, I'd say MSU is easily the most consistent this year (in the BIG). I''m just saying that those inconsistencies can make the conference overrated at times. I don't think the conference is vastly overrated like the other poster does, but it can be overrated at times and I can certainly see the argument for people saying the conference is overrated based on consistency. Still a great conference and arguably the toughest/best this year though. |
Almost every team is "inconsistent" by your standards. Other than Murray State, Kentucky, and Syracuse, (maybe North Carolina) every team in the country was inconsistent if Ohio State and Michigan State were. Ohio State's inconsistency is way overblown. Michigan State isn't inconsistent, they were just poor on the road. Michigan and Indiana were very inconsistent. Wisconsin's only inconsistencies came against Iowa. Other than that, they beat every team they should've. Every Big Ten team save Nebraska and Penn State are pretty solid (possibly excluding Illinois as well, because they just self destructed as the season wore on). There's no other power conference that has the top to bottom depth of the Big Ten. |
Yes, most teams are inconsistent, the Big Ten teams (which I've already said I have seen much more than teams from other conferences) seem to be extremely inconsistent (this year), with MSU being the most consistent.
Bold = Kind of the definition of inconsistent.
You just admitted that every team in the conference is inconsistent, with MSU and OSU being the least inconsistent team, which is exactly what I said. Not sure what you are arguing about. |
The issue is using the term inconsistent to say the division is overrated. |

My point is/was that the conference can be overrated AT TIMES because of consistency issues. It isn't majorly overrated or overrated all the time, but when your #3,4,5 teams (Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin) have inconsistency issues and your top 2 teams (MSU, OSU) are a bit more inconsistent versus other top 5/10 teams that they are compared to (i.e. Kentucky, UNC) then at times (when those teams are being inconsistent) then the conference can be overrated. The major issue isn't with MSU or OSU, as much as it is with the 3-5 teams (3-6, if you want to include Purdue) being inconsistent and the bottom of the conference being average-bad. It is still arguably the top conference in the nation. I don't think the conference is majorly overrated or overrated all the time though. _________________

I don't disagree, that doesn't mean they aren't inconsistent or that other conferences don't have a claim. _________________

I see what you're saying. I thought your point was that the inconsistency put them below some other conferences. While the Big East, Big 12, and ACC all have arguments to be made, I don't think there's really anyway you can put any them over the Big Ten. _________________

No, and to be fair with me seeing the Big Ten way more (than other conferences) I am probably much more critical/know the weaknesses of the conference and teams much more than I do about other conferences. _________________

personally think the Big XII was the best conference in the country
3 top 10 teams
Iowa State, K-State were really solid (if a little inconsistent at times)
Texas was a pretty good team for being so young and was the #1 team in the bottom half.
A&M would have been a lot better if not for so many injuries
OSU, Oklahoma mostly sucked, but OSU and OU showed a little bit of potential.
Tech was horrid. _________________

Also, UNC with a scoring Kendal Marshall is scary.
Would be scarier if they would decide to play the defense they are capable of playing. _________________

Granted, Creighton is not a very good defensive team...but this is a scary UNC team and why they would have been so much better with McDonald and Strickland. _________________

Harrison Barnes gets absolutely no calls when he goes inside. It's nuts. _________________
