CS,
Theres always a way...
Cuts, Restructuring, etc. if it makes your ball club better do it.
Possiable cap moves include the release of
Vilma
Shanle
Herring
Strief
Henderson
Thomas
Restructure or extend
Ellis
Bushrod
Harper
In Mickey I trust!!! |
Besides paying the QB, YES! |
Drew is going to get his money. Just this year he's going to have play at 14.4. Next year the salary cap goes up plus Stinchomb, Greer and Ellis come off the books.. _________________

I don't see Drew playing under the tag, from what I've read. _________________

No doubt, but how much can we do?
Streif, Henderson, Thomas(either one) and Herring don't make enough that restructuring them would be overly beneficial.
Harper won't restructure so soon after he has gotten a new deal.
Both Ellis and Bushrod can't be restructured (i believe) due to them being free agents next year. Bushrod won't take less, if anything he'll want more after a probowl appearance. Ellis is a weird case. According to spotrac, his cap figure is $7.7M, if we extend him, we could potentially lower that cap hit (given it is a 3-4 year deal). The problem is, after the last 2 years, do we want to extend Ellis?
Shanle sucks, screw him. It disgusts me to even put effort into typing out his name.
Vilma is another strange case. According to Spotrac, his cap hit is 6.6M, and he does have 2 years left on his deal. I believe Triplett said if we cut him we gain $3.8M cap hit(or something like that).
And now consider we're 3M under the cap as it is.
Interesting times. _________________

From what I been reading I also agree but as long as that 30 million signing bonus is still on the table then you can structure a deal. Just as long as the signing bonus is not over the lifespan the contract. _________________

you want to take about restructuring how about Lance Moore who only plays every other season?
I have come to the conclusion that the Saints will be fortunate to not be less talented this season. With $3 million of cap space it looks like it will be a struggle to fill three roster with low priced guys and draftees. Forget high profile FAs. I'm the dark cloud...I know. But I believe that this is the reality of the 2012 offseason. |

Is it time to bite the bullet and wash our hands of this offseason?
I want to improve the defense as much as anyone, but I think that the Saints should play it cheap this offseason and structure Drews contract so that he gets as much of his signing bonus as possible with our remaining cap space. My reasoning is to finally get ahead of the curve when resigning free agents. Next year the Saints are going to have to resign Greer, Graham, and Bushrod. The Saints have to resign Graham before urge Pats resign Gronk. Otherwise the Saints are going to have to pony up even more. Let's start preparing to make a splash next offseason. |

Huh? What on earth are you talking about? Not including playoffs last season, the only season he didn't play for significant time was 2009 where he missed 9 games. Outside of that, he missed 2 games last season. Since becoming a full time member of the active roster, he played 16 games in 2007, 2008, and 2010. 14 in 2011.

The guy has the best hands on the team, and is easily the Saints most consistent player. It would be near criminal to look to him to restructure. Especially considering he is only making $2 million this season.
Don't come at my homie Lance...every one here knows this was my man-crush since 2006. _________________

Agreed on everything. I will admit, earlier in his career I was a doubter, but he definitely proved me wayyyyy wrong. _________________

The saints can get it done. I'm still optimistic. They can still free up 6 million by cutting Shanle, Herring and Vilma. As far Brees go, they can give him 5yrs 100 million with 65 guaranteed and 30 million signing bonus. The first 3 yrs he make 21 million. They pay him 10 million a year for the first 3 yrs in signing bonus and his base salary is 11 million. I choose to cut Ellis which free up 5.4 million to give to Brees. So which means we still have 11.8 million to fix the defense. _________________

So.. I haven't heard or read anything that says Lofton or Bunkley have left town. Is this good news or bad news? Is anyone hearing anything? _________________

Word is that after landing manning... Denver is putting alot of focus into resigning Bunkley.
They got alot of cap room and Manning... Bye bye Bunkley! _________________

Makes sense, unless he likes the area or wants to play indoors maybe. I'm just hoping to sign Hawthorne or Lofton. _________________
