How many of you are comfortable with Jah Reid as the Ravens starting LG. I believe the Ravens are grooming him to be the starting LT in 2013. Remember J. Ogden played LG before becoming a great tackle. I'm sure the Ravens will draft a C/G early in the draft but if Reid can get it done the Ravens dont have to rush a rookie to start and groom their future LT in Reid. Thoughts???

Reid at LT? Hell no. If he's playing OT it better be on the right side or the team is going to suffer. He might be as effective at LT as McKinnie is now, probably with a bit more athleticism though. I'm not sure how I feel about him at LG but it's not a totally repulsive idea. It's hard to say right now because there isn't really any tape of him playing inside much less on the interior line of a zone-blocking team.

I don't mind him at LG, but I'm not sure he's ever going to be a LT. He has the size for it, but he doesn't quite have the athleticism I would like in a LT. Jah Reid is pretty much just really solid depth at G and RT at the moment.

I think we'll most likely draft a C/G early on who is going to be the starter at LG.

all i remember of jah is that last year in the playoffs. he came in for oher for a few plays and was the only of our lineman that could stop vince wilfork. I think the kid has a bright future for us at one of the tackle spots

I think he should be given the opportunity to compete for the LG spot. I really like him in the ZBS though, he gets really good depth and strength on his down block. His size should also help him be a force in pass pro if he can keep a firm center of gravity.

He's not a LT, he doesn't have the feet. Just because we did it with Ogden doesn't mean we'll do it with Reid. Ogden didn't play LT because he was behind a probowl caliber LT, Reid was stuck behind McKinnie/Oher... not quite as formidable. No way Ogden as a rookie sits behind McKinnie IMO. Reid isn't nearly the athlete that Ogden was.

Agreed with everyone else.

Trying him at LG is one thing.

Trying him at LT is a bad thing.

Ogden was a #4 overall pick and seen as our franchise LT who played LG to get acclimated before making the switch.

Reid is seen as pretty much emergency situation at LG. Not a chance he becomes the LT.

DB - Spot on analysis. Reid has to keep his posterior down and learn to roll his hips better.

Ogden played LG his first year, guys, because Tony Jones was the incumbent LT. It was suggested that Jones could possibly move to guard which didn't fly with Jones at all. He was NOT happy when the Ravens drafted J.O. and left for Denver the following year. The next 12 years at LT worked out just fine.

The same applies for Pepper Johnson and his little free agency ruse in '96. Pepper tried to hold the Ravens captive with the threat that they would have no starting MLB in a new city after the move to Baltimore and essentially asked for a king's ransom. Johnson eventually signed with Detroit. Detroit finished with one more win than the Ravens in '96 and some guy named Lewis ended up playing MLB for us.

The moral of the story is that Ozzie always finds a way to fill the gaps and this year will be no different. Remember: Ozzie loves to trade mid-round picks for veteran players and the LG position may very well be addressed in this manner on Day 3 of the draft.

Another interesting thing with Reid is what happens if he doesn't take over at LG. Yanda isn't going anywhere and I would assume the team would want to keep Oher around. To be honest if Oher doesn't improve I wouldn't mind it if the Ravens let him walk and plug Reid. That's quite a long time to wait until we get anything out of him though. Seems like there's a chance Reid could end up as another wasted OL pick like Cousins, Terry, Hale, and Chester (to some extent in his case).

Still don't want to see him at LT. Ever.

Oher has made improvements. It is just coming at a slow pace. I totally disagree with letting Oher walk and "plugging" in Reid. This isn't Madden man. That "plug in" can lead to a Flacco injury if he isn't ready. If Reid can prove to us that he can play RT with little mistakes and at a good level, sure I'd be comfortable with seeing what he's got.

O-Line is one of the most "wasted" picks you are right. Because it is really a hit or miss pick. Either the talent transfers over or it doesn't. Some guys are just overwhelmed. I don't mind swinging and missing on certain OL prospects. Adam Terry looked SOOO promising. He was a huge disappointed.

Cody was my biggest disappoinment we ever drafted, but let's not open that can of worms Lol

Oher can lead to Flacco getting injured if he doesn't improve. Sure he wasn't as bad as he was the year before but I think that has a lot more to do with him moving to RT instead of any real development in his play. It's not like we would be sliding in a guy with little talent, Reid has everything you look for in a RT.

If Oher doesn't work out and improve at RT and Reid doesn't look like a fit a LG, if both are still around in 2013 (can't remember contract details) then I'd like to switch Oher to LG and Reid out to RT. I like what both ring to the table, we just need to find a way to put it together and get both guys to their potential somehow.

Agree with everyone. Reid looks like the real deal at LG, but simply isn't polished enough at the moment to even dream of being a decent LT. His footwork, in particular, is still a major work in progress IMO.

I don't think any of us can honestly say that.

Worded it poorly. I obviously haven't seen anything you haven't when it comes to him playing there, but, at least IMO, it looks like he stacks up well.
