|
Rd 1 pick 17: Stephon Glimore- Gilmore is an athletic CB that has great speed and enjoys hitting! I watched Kirkpatrick at his pro-day, and while I think there is a lot of great attributes that he possesses, one thing stuck in my mind that I didn't like. he was awful in his agility drills! he appeared to have a really rough time controlling his extremely long, thin looking body. Janoris is a better CB prospect than most in this draft, but I think it would be wise that Mike Brown and company avoid drafting people with character issues in the first 3 rounds. That really just leaves Gilmore for us at 17, and I feel that we have to grab a young talented prospect to play CB when Clements and Newman are gone next year. Just think how good this guy could be after learning form 2 class acts like Newman and Clements for a whole year!!!
Rd 1 pick 21: Stephen Hill- I think the most important pick we can make in this draft is our number 2 WR. It would be detrimental to this team to not draft someone that would help Andy and AJ's progression. AJ will never get open again if we don't get a receiving threat on the other side and if AJ never gets open then Andy will fall subject to the infamous sophomore slump! Unfortunately the Bengals can't afford a season where we don't improve (as our history will show) so it is important to give Andy another target. Hill is obviously the fastest WR in this draft, and he possesses incredible size as well. The thing I like the most about him (other than he has a great character) is the fact that he is an incredible and willing blocker. The knock on Hill is that he didn't have great numbers and played in a run first offense... blah blah blah... I can guarantee you that he would be better than Jerome was in his 4th season on his 4th day!!! Ive also seen some of his highlights, and let me tell ya fellas... dudes got hands!!!!
Rd 2 pick 53: Lamar Miller- I'm not 100% sold that Miller will make it to us here, but if he is, he has to be the pick! @ 21 years old, he has so much room to grow and develop into a running back that every team wishes they had. Miller could step in on third downs and give Andy another option in the flats. BJGE will be the thunder while Miller will be the lightning!!!
Rd 3 pick 83: Amini Silatolu- Amini is by far the meanest, nastiest blocker I have ever seen in my life! Decastro is the best G in this class by far, but it is doubtful he will be there when we pick. after Decastro, every other G prospect is average in my opinion. that is until you see Silatolu... He has a video on YouTube, and I recommend that you watch it! he literally pancakes anywhere from 1 to 3 guys every play. The risk is that he could struggle to make a transition from D2 to the pro's but I don't think it will be too tough on him.... Oh and by the way... The Bengals are completely smitten with him so I can imagine that he is on their radar.
Rd 4 pick 116: Vontaze Burfict- I know that a lot of people aren't enamored with the idea of this pick, but I think that the reward could definitely outweigh the risk here! Brandon Spikes was very similar to Burfict coming out of Florida... Spikes had anger issues (suspended for poking eyes in the dog pile and spitting in faces) and he also performed poorly at the combine (5 second 40). But look at Spikes now... he played exceptionally well for a superbowl patriots team... Burfict will grow up in a year or 2 and end up being a stud at LB for us... Another player Marvin has spent a great deal of time with!
Rd 5 pick 156: Lucas Nix- Nix is a tough G that will provide depth and insurance if Silatolu doesn't make the transition.
Rd 5 pick 166: DeVier Posey- Posey is a tall fast sure handed WR that will provide depth and special teams help. I kinda feel like he reminds me of Victor Cruz a little bit... If only he could produce like Cruz, we would be in line for a few superbowls!!!
Rd 5 pick 167: Ernest Owusu- Big DE 6'5" 280... Sturdy player (played 42 games with Cal). Could be a steal in this years draft... registered 12 TFL and 4.5 sack last year.
Rd 6 pick 191: Cliff Harris- Was once considered a border line first round pick. It is apparent that there are some serious maturity issues with Harris, but if he could clean up his act, he could provide the Bengals with quality depth and become an incredible Kick returner. |

• Silatolu won't make it to rd 3
• I don't think Miller is tough enough to be an AFC N RB
• I wouldn't want Burfict in the 6th
• We won't take two guards, we already have 4 under contract
• I don't think we'll take two WR, Green/Shipley/Binns/Whalen/Hawkins is pretty set for 5 of 6 slots
• Harris showed up at the combine at 180 lbs, ran a 4.7, looked sloppy in drills, and likely is high right now. Pass
• I'd be fine with Gilmore and Hill in rd 1
I just posted a 7 rd mock in the mock draft forum, here is how my Bengals mock turned out
1a. David Decastro, G, Stanford - I really think he'll make it to us. KC has a decent running game without him, which is where the consensus here has him. I think positional value drops him to us at 17
1b. Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois - You can never, ever, have too many pass rushers. Along with a healthy Dunlap, Geno, and Jamaal Anderson on passing downs, Mercilus could really upgrade our pass rush.
2. AJ Jenkins, WR, Illinois - I think he'll be the best WR from this class. Real good hands, Passable size at 6'0", but with a 39" vert, very quick, and he runs a sub 4.4 40 time. With AJG on the other side, he'll never have to face a double team
3. Jammel Fleming, CB, Oklahoma - Needs some refinement, but his measurables are amongst the best in this draft at CB, and we can have him learn for a year behind vets like Clements and Newman.
4. Demario Davis, WLB, Arkansas State - Athletic freak from a small school. Have him sit for a year behind Howard and tear it up on special teams, and I think he can take over at WLB in 2013.
5a. Janzen Jackson, FS, McNeese State - A long term backup to Nelson at FS whom could possibly develope into a starter down the line
5b. Tom Compton, OT, South Dakota - Developmental LT to back up Whit, has nice measurables for the position
5c. Markus Kuhn, DT, NC State - A raw player with upside to back up Geno. Very quick for a DT.
6. Davin Meggett, RB, Maryland - Would provide competition for Brian Leonard as the 3rd RB, and competition for Hawkins returning kicks. Has starting RB upside.
QB: Andy Dalton, Bruce Gradkowski
RB: Benjarvus Green-Ellis, Bernard Scott, Davin Meggett
FB: Chris Pressley
WR: AJ Green, Armon Binns, Ryan Whalen
WR: AJ Jenkins, Jordan Shipley, Andrew Hawkins
TE: Jermaine Gresham, Donald Lee, Colin Cochart
LT: Andrew Whitworth, Tom Compton
LG: Travelle Wharton, Otis Hudson
C: Kyle Cook, (Hudson)
RG: David Decastro, Clint Boling
RT: Andre Smith, Anthony Collins
LDE: Carlos Dunlap, Jamaal Anderson
UDT: Geno Atkins, Markus Kuhn
NDT: Domata Peko, Pat Sims
RDE: Whitney Merclius, Michael Johnson, Robert Geathers
WLB: Thomas Howard, Demario Davis
MLB: Rey Maualuga, Roderick Muckelroy, Dan Skuta
SLB: Manny Lawson, Dontay Moch
LCB: (Leon Hall-PUP), Jason Allen, Terrence Newman, Jammel Fleming
FS: Reggie Nelson, Janzen Jackson
SS: Taylor Mays, Robert Sands, Jeromy Miles
RCB: Nate Clements, Adam Jones
K: Mike Nugent
P: Kevin Huber
LS: Clark Harris
Notable Cuts:
Dennis Roland
Brandon Tate
Derrick Harvey
Brandon Ghee
One of Newman or Jones if no one injured by the time Hall comes off the PUP _________________

I agree with almost all of this. I think Miller would be plenty tough enough for the role he would fill if we drafted him. _________________ 2013 Draft Needs: RB, Safety. Maybe RT and backup LBs |

| I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying, but this isn't exactly my dream draft but more of what we actually may do... The Bengals are famous for ending the tumble that a lot of these kids endure through the draft process! If Burfict can play at the level that he is capable of, and does a complete 180 of his attitude (which some times happens through later maturation) he would make the Bengals look like geniuses! Same with Harris who as of last year, looked like a solid starting CB prospect... He was slow and fat because he was out of shape from suspension, but that's nothing that wouldn't be fixed by camps and conditioning! If all else fails they served as depth through camp! I agree that Miller isn't a classic AFCN RB, but I felt that way about Ray Rice at one point too! He is young and will continue to develop physically until he is 23 or 24... He will add strength and weight while rotating with BJGE... That to me seems like the best scenario for the Bengals anyways to have a young RB that gains experience with little wear and tear giving him time to develop into a stud! I don't think Silatolu will last till the third either, but he may just for the fact that he played D2 ball! I did like your mock though Duke!!! I am just excited about the fact that for once, we don't have to worry that the draft will make or break this team![/quote] |

Why don't we mix them then.
1a. DeCastro
1b. Hill
2. Miller/martin
3. Fleming

Any mock draft that starts off with Gilmore and Hill, gets an A+ in my book. _________________ " I imagine that in Paul McCartneys' house, he must have a shelf with the 12+ great 'Beatles' studio albums neatly stacked. Amini will probably be taken late 1st early 2nd. He is my darkhorse pick for #21 for us. I guarantee he will not be there when we pick in the 2nd, let alone the 3rd. One of the fastest risers in the draft currently. _________________
