Hello to all Colts fans on this forum,

I skimmed through your threads yet couldn't find a thread soley dedicated to the following. After the combine, the pro days, and hence additional days to mull over the upcoming decision, whom would you rather choose with your number one overall pick:

Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III?

My two cents on this: As an outsider who doesn't know the future scheme of the Indy offense or the personal likings of HC Pagano and OC Christensen, I would pick RGIII. They are both smart, they have both an accurate and strong arm, they are both fairly athletic; however to me RGIII has more potential. Luck is the best prospect since Manning and/or Elway, his level of play in this league will probably be very elite. Still, Griffin III - as a prospect - is not far behind at this point and time, and with the olympic athlete's body of his perhaps a bit better in terms of potential. Somehow I feel that even if the Colts like RGIII a tad more, they wouldn't want to pick him over Luck. The decision does not resemble Manning vs Leaf, but does have some additional twist it. Luck is regarded as the surefire number one overall, at least the general public thinks that way. If the Colts were to pick RGIII ahead of him, and he fails for whatever reason, everyone would say: "Why didn't they select the consensus number one in Luck?". If the Colts were picking Luck, and Griffin excedes Luck's play, they wouldn't be left stranded with him, meaning Luck probably would be good as well at that point in time; yet the Colts still could say: "We did what 98% of the franchises would have done!". In the end, in picking Luck, no potential public aftermath can ensue.

Who would you rather have? Has it changed over the couple of days?

Greetings from Germany

PS: If you have to move this thread, do it of course. It's 8 am over here in Europe so my tired mind might not have seen the fitting thread for this topic here on your board.

First of all, Clyde Christiansen is no longer the OC. He was retained and is now the QB coach but former Steelers OC Bruce Arians is the new OC. (Ariens was Manning's QB coach his rookie year.)

As for the question, I really like everything I've seen from both QBs but I've surrendered to the idea that Manning would be gone for a couple months now and in that I've accepted that the QB would be Luck.

Ariens scheme, as I'm lead to believe, is a pass oriented offense that he tried to implement in Pittsburgh but didn't have any luck (pardon the pun. LOL) because of the run first mentality there.

This. I like RG3 but Irsay picked Manning and he'll definitely follow the mold and grab Luck. If he intended to grab RG3, who is less NFL ready because his ability to read defenses isn't as great as Luck's and doesn't really work under center, he would have kept Manning despite the price tag IMO.

It's a forgone conclusion and has been for a while. It's irsays pick, and he likes Luck

Yeah, as good as RG III could be in the NFL I think it's a foregone conclusion we will draft Luck in the draft this year.

Rumor has a trying to trade out of the #1 pick to select RB Trent Richardson / or selecting him at #1 Laughing

Now personally .. Im a fan of Richardson... However I think this is a predraft rumors. I wouldn't be opposed to getting Richardson though because he'd be an upgrade over any RB on our roster & a franchise RB for years to come. Doubt we pass up on Luck for a franchise RB, but it shows we're weighing all options.

Richardson + Kirk Cousins in the 2nd wouldn't be terrible.

If Colts take Richardson #1 overall I will get rid of my tix and burn all my jerseys.

As for RGIII: I think he will be good, but his trackstar athletisism will be put to best use when he is out of the pocket on bootlegs, options, designed QB runs, etc. (Yes, I am aware that he is a good pocket passer too). These are all times when he will be putting his body at greater risk to injury compared to a predominantly pocket passer. If he gets a bad leg injury (knockonwood) it will affect his game more than a similar injury would affect Luck. I know Luck likes to run bootlegs and all that too, but, of the two, luck will be in the pocket more often, and will therefore benefit more from the league rules that protect QBs in the pocket. I am a Colts fan who is sold on Luck, but I look forward to watching RGIII.

Ive looked through muliple places and haven't found anything but the initial rumor about Richardson soooo I'm going to chalk that up to pre-draft smoke screens. As far as the debate between Luck & Griffin ... its Luck hands down. Irsay even tweeted 'All signs point to #12 but they're keeping an open mind' ... that means to me.. well we've decided to go with Luck but if something changes (even though its very unlikely) that they'll look at it.

I'd take Griffin, solely because Andrew Luck always looks like he's taking a dump.
