The 3-year extension is worth more than $23M.
It's a strange time for an extension as the league is about to release the details on the suspensions of the bounty-gate case and Greer could possibly be one of the players suspended.
Greer is one of the better CBs in the league, he recorded 5 INTs and 43 passes defended in 3 years with the Saints.

That would be my guess. Could mean they are closing in on a Brees deal and have a better idea of how much $$$ they will need in 2012.
