25 and 87 for 33 and 39 is a horrible trade for the Rams. Make it 25 and 57 and you might be on to something, but there's no way they do the trade as you have it.
I do like most of the draft though. David is a nice replacement for Williams. Givens is a reach at 57. The rest of the draft is solid. |

One, because we can draft a CB with one of our first two picks who can grow and develop and be under contract with us for twice as long as Samuel and at a greatly lower price.
Two, DJ is a very good and very important part of our defense. I know a lot of people here don't like him personally (and count me among those) but he's very good at what we does. If we're going to trade DJ for Samuel, then we will need to spend our 1st or 2nd round pick on an OLB because Woodyard is a not starting-caliber NFL WLB, he's nickel LB and special teamer.

I don't disagree, i would rather hold onto DJ, but in terms of value it is a fair trade and both likely won't be Broncos in 3 years. While there are rookie CB's that can be had there are also 3 good WLB's in David, Wagner, and Brown that can be had to replace Williams. All 3 have elite qualities. |

Ah, shoot. Good catch. When I was trying to conjure up a trade into the second, I used pick 25 and 57 as compensation for 33 and 39 using the trade value chart. Then through the rest of the mock, I accidentally messed up the numbers and subsequently thought I got three second rounders. Thanks for catching, and hopefully picking Givens in the third would not be such a reach compared to the second round. I'll go back and change it.

The Broncos would essentially get the same player in David as DJ, but he's younger, has a smaller contract, and doesn't have any character concerns. So how would you feel about that trade then? |

Right now, WLB is one of the strongest parts of our roster; we have a stellar starter in DJ and a backup in Woodyard who can both fill in for DJ when he's hurt/suspended and can contribute heavily to the team in his own right as a nickel/coverage LB and as a special teams ace. Both are also in the primes of their careers, under contract with for a sizable period of time and do not have any significant injury concerns that could limit their production. WLB is actually the only position on the roster where we need neither an upgrade in starting talent nor an upgrade with the backup(s).
I understand trying to be creative making a mock draft but the process laid out here is convoluted, unrealistic and does nothing to improve the team.

IMO, DJ has screwed up one too many times. It seems that in every season he has a screw up and leaves us pulling our hair out.
In this draft, Lavonte David is an exceptional WLB. Sure hes not a "sure thing" as DJ is, but hes also not the headache that DJ is. As a prospect, David is as ready as any WLB to come out in years. Im ready to move on from DJ. Hes a good piece to the puzzle, but adding David AND Asante makes this defense much better.
Trading for Asante upgrades our team immediately, I dont understand how you dont think it doesnt. Were in a "WIN NOW" mode. Asante is an aged veteran that understands the position and can immediately help our secondary, in comparison to a rookie CB. He was one of the best one-on-one CB's last year and judging by how bad our secondary did against DET, GB, and NWE, hed obviously be a big help.

I agree. DJ makes the dumbest decisions. But, didn't Lavante David just get arrested for punching a cop?
