I'd be interested in hearing why you think that. I think that he is neck and neck with Claiborne in coverage. |
I think CWood is the Skip Bayless of the Packer forum when it comes to draft. Says outrageous things so if he hits on something he can say he was right. When he's wrong, no one really remembers.
Upshaw more likely to go in round 3 than in round 1. Gilmore will have to play S. Years ago he told me Andre Smith could be a great LT when it was obvious he wouldn't work out there. _________________

That would insinuate that he knew what he was intentionally being way off base. _________________

So is Upshaw (that should be Courtney, not Coutney) not a good pass rusher?
I hope Jones goes before us because I don't see him as a standup OLB. He's a very poor-man's Pierre-Paul IMO.
I prefer a few OLBs to Upshaw, but I would be excited if TT took him, faith in TT, and I'd expect him to become a force at ROLB and a physical presence a la Woodley.
In fact I could see Clay moving back to ROLB and Upshaw over to LOLB. _________________ "It's the same old Jay," Woodson told ESPN afterward. "We just need to be in position. Jay will throw us the ball." |

Physically, he's only a tick behind Patrick Peterson as far as size-speed for cornerbacks go. The problem for me lies in his horrific footwork, high back pedal, and overall tight hips. I guess if you really trust your DB coach, you might take a flier on him, but he's going to get overdrafted based on his size-speed combination. _________________

I wouldn't say I'm that outrageous, you want outrageous comments go look at what hauschild used to say. The Upshaw thing I don't find outrageous at all, he's not a great pass rusher and teams don't draft for meh players in the first. They want impact players, and Upshaw isn't one. The Gilmore one isn't off base either, go check other places and not everyone holds Gilmore in high regards. As far as Andre Smith, I thought he had the potential to be a really good LT, but he was only going to be as good as he wanted to be. He had star RT potential though. _________________

I'll say this. There is a MUCH better chance that Upshaw falls out of round one than there is of Gilmore being around for the Packers pick. Not sure what was said about Big Andre??? BUT, that young man is as good as any RT in the game right now IMO. A true freak when it comes to true football skills. Can do things that should not be done at his size! Had the foot, IT HAPPENS! Anything but a "bust" pick right there. _________________

Gilmore has a better chance of going top 10 than getting to GB. He is a stud. As we learn more about boards, it seems like Jones and Mercilus are sitting above Upshaw which doesn't surprise me given the league's love for natural pass rusher and the success of the young rusher in San Fran last year.
As for Smith, I had him as one of the best players in that draft and it turns out that he is. Certainly the best OL. _________________

But would he have sniffed top ten had he not had the great combine? I don't think he would have been a Day 1 pick had he not. From what I've seen, his play is lackluster. Just because players rise up doesn't mean they should go there. You really think Duane Brown was a first round pick a few years back when the Texans surprised everyone and took him? Or was C.J. Spiller a top ten talent in the 2010 draft? Fact is teams see the speed, and they think they can mold that talent into a dynamic talent with varying levels of success. For every Jason Pierre-Paul there are hundreds that don't work out. _________________

I think that the argument could be made that yes, he would have. He was a tremendous cover guy. He was a Freshman All-American in 2009 and 3rd team All-American and All-SEC in 2010.
Duane Brown was 2nd team All-Pro this year, so i am betting that he was slotted appropriately in round one. Thinking that he was probably one of the best picks that year.
CJ Spiller was an All-American at Clemson for a number of years. Not a H/S/W guy at all. he also had a darned good finish to 2011. _________________

I disagree. I don't see a tremendous cover guy, I see a pretty good one in zone but not a tremendous one. Probably just a difference in opinion.
And I'm referring to at the time that the Brown pick was made, most considered it a reach. Not really fair to go back and say he was worth a first round pick when his "draft value" was closer to the third round. Hell, I don't think anyone would say Darrius Heyward-Bey was worth the seventh overall pick right now, but at the time he was worth taking a shot with him with a first round pick
Spiller had speed, and plenty of it. The Bills fell in love with the speed, and thought they could mold him into a complete football player. Thus far, that isn't the case but he's still young. _________________

So what you are saying is that becaue draftniks didn't have Brown where he was drafted, that he was a HWS reach DESPITE him proving that he wasn't?
How can you say what the Bills fell in love with. He was conference player of the year, 3 time all conference, and given a first round draft grade before returning for his senior year.
Sure Al Davis reached, but you are just talking crazy at this point. You seem to think that draft value is determined by youtube clips watched by college kids who never played, coached, or did anything else football related. _________________
