seems to me the only way we'll stay put at 25 is if a player we identified falls to that point. |
Why so?
Hes just as good as Mercilius, IMO he might be better. A big nasty DE, who should really play strongside in a 4-3. He'd be perfect for this team. |
Because he's got first round stock based on potential not production. I need to see production to go along with the potential if I'm drafting a guy in the first round. 4.5 sacks doesn't warrant a first round selection. At least Ayers 20 something tackles for loss looked good along with his 3 sacks... Jones had a whopping 7 tackles for loss... you don't use a first rounder on a guy who has shown squat for production. Even if he's a one year wonder like a JPP or Mercilus - at least they've shown something on top of having elite potential. _________________

IMO getting Brockers in the first then Curry in the second would be perfect. I doubt Curry lasts till 57 though. _________________ Broncos-Bulls-Cubs-CU-Blackhawks |

No but seriously... Athletically, Irvin is the best pass rusher in this draft. Problem is, thats all he can do. Hes small (like Doom) and is very poor in playing angles. I remember a game against Pitt where he just got eaten up in TE chip blocks. Still, hes got a ton of potential. But if were talking pass rushers, he should be at the top. |
He isn't small like Doom, maybe skinny?
He's actually very comparable to Von Miller in terms of size:
Miller 6'3" 237 lbs
Irvin 6'3" 245 lbs

I like Bruuuuce too, but it seems we have a superior specialist in the role he would play already. |

At which draft slot would this be? Don't have the outdated value chart in front of me... _________________

Heck if I know? I am not privy to draft charts. But, these kinds of guys fall it seems like; Fairly and the dude from Clemson last year come to mind. I forgot his name, but many thought he could go 1st overall and then slid into the second round. I think the Bucs picked him up? _________________ Ninja stealth muggers in the Bellagio has left me in a state of congitive disonance... |

maybe in college. at 6'5 he is only 266lbs, that is kinda skinny don't you think? how is he gonna be able to hold the line against linemen that are 50lbs heavier than him? i guess he can bulk up in the offseason. he kinda remind me of a slightly bigger aaron maybin. i like perry much better, but that's just me. |

I believe it's Da'Quan Bowers you're speaking of. _________________ Broncos-Bulls-Cubs-CU-Blackhawks |

Bowers fell because he had a serious knee injury. I think Coples could fall. Though i dont think he'll fall to far. He'd still be one of the top 3 DEs in the draft. _________________

Definitely BPA. He'd also be a good LE. He's still better than pretty much every DE in the draft. _________________

I agree, Coples is probably the most complete DE in the draft, but i don't think he is the pass rusher a lot of people think he is. He will get some sacks, but i don't think you're going to see a bunch of 10+ sack seasons.
I would love Coples at #25 and i think that is good value for him. If he goes top 10 that is a reach IMO. He should go in the 15-20 range. |

First of all, I think Nick Perry is also better. Maybin is a very bad comparison. Completely different skillsets.
Chandler Jones is a very strong and powerful player. I think hes much bigger than listed, and definitely stronger. The way he plays, I absolutely think he can play on the DL immediately. _________________

we already have a stout run defender who can't pressure the qb at left end. gimme someone with a little bit of pass rushing upside - which Chandler Jones has shown none of. If we upgrade the left end spot - it will be by finding a better pass rusher than Ayers. Not sure Jones offers that. Nick Perry on the other hand... _________________

I'd definitely argue that. Chandler is extremely explosive off the line. He uses his arms well and has shown the ability to rush w/ power and dominate OT. Look at the WVU and you can see upside as a passrusher. He is extremely raw technique wise. Chandler Jones imo is a special player. His measurables are impeccable. He looks pretty good in coverage from what I've seen and great vs the run. Though when watching WVU all of there blitzs that succeeded were when they used Jones are rusher and he would push the OT back and the S or OLB would make the sack. His passrushing is far from a finished product but he definitely hasn't shown none of. _________________
